I took a class of 31 Year 5 children to the Bushcraft Company in May 2022, for two nights, and could not have been happier. It is the first time our school had used The Bushcraft Company and we had quite a job on our hands to convince our children's parents of our choice, as many of them had read the negative reviews on Google of the whole company. Because we had been told so many good things by local schools before we went, we held tight in our choice and were delighted we did. In our experience, none of the things we had read turned out to be true or at least none of the horror stories, which I believe to be mostly written by disgruntled teenagers who are probably just too 'cool' for sleeping in a yurt for a few night!. Even before we went, the company did everything possible to reassure us, including showing us around the site two weeks before our visit. If you have any doubts, do a pre-trip visit and you will see for yourselves what a beautiful, clean site it is. From the moment we arrived, the enthusiasm of the staff was incredible and contagious. They work 24/7 and do absolutely everything, including solving any issues in the night. They are passionate about bringing children into the wild to let them experience the freedom and independence so often lacking in children's lives today. The staff are so dedicated and although living in a wood for 6 months of the year isn't everyone's choice, every single member of staff we met, from the different camps, seemed to be loving it. The company coped so well with the chronic lack of staff that so many industries are struggling with and kept us informed of every little change that was needed. The Site Manager and Deputy CEO of the company took time to find us to ask if everything was OK. Our tribe leader was constantly asking if everything was OK and if there was any more they could do for us. There was plenty of opportunity to get anything fixed there and then. I am aware that some schools have had their trips cancelled due to the staff shortages and this must be hugely disappointing. But the staff we encountered are doing everything they can to compensate in very unusual times. If you are contemplating taking your school here, please do! Yes, you will have to go in a portaloo, you will have to find the flattest parts of the yurts for the children to roll their thin mats out on, you will have to cope with the moans about insects, but it is 100% worth it.
Interesting environment, Kind staff, the tents were a little cramped and the food came in small portions but the experience was nice.
Great place to make children Bushcraft, the kids enjoy and learn.
