"A resplendent thatched-roof Inn, located in the heart of Devon, two miles from the coastal town of Sidmouth. With eight recently renovated rooms, the Blue Ball is a snuggly, seaside treat of a place.Locally sourced seafood specials are the order of the day, supplied by renowned Cornish fishmonger Flying Fish, coupled with a well-stocked bar of real ales, liveners & pick me ups!Our cosy corners, eccentric finishing touches and curiosities make for quite the venerable experience. Only heightened by our splendid rear garden which promises to provide a welcome haven."

We phoned ahead to ask if we could leave our camper van overnight in their car park over the road and there were no problems at all. Great pub. We had the vegan options, which were particularly tasty 'salads' and we were given a discount when one dish was slightly late arriving which we appreciated. My partner said it was the best aubergine he had ever tasted and he is not usually a fan! We would have liked more vegan options on the menu, as we are used to having a choice these days. We loved the abundant floral displays all around the building and it was very quiet overnight despite it being on a main road. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area
Great food and beer , went for the otter ale. Food was high quality, great flavour. Well cooked. Clean toilets. Relaxed atmosphere. Helpful and pleasant staff. Slightly odd event when paying staff were going to add 10% tip on the food and not able to choose another amount except 10%. Weird. Recommended place to eat.
An excellent and very traditional pub. Log fire and friendly staff. Stayed over for one night. Nice room altho it over looks the main road, so a little early morning noise. Well worth a visit and a good base when visiting the Devon south coastRooms: 5/5
Very nice. On the one hand It might be a lovely homemade burger and chips but it's costly. More of a restaurant than a pub. Quality food just better than we expected from what looked like a roadside in pub.
We recently hosted our daughters 18th birthday party in the Blue Ball's function room. The owner was very accommodating as were all the staff we met. Nothing was too much trouble and despite us asking for numerous things when they were obviously busy, they were all friendly and happy to help.Service: 5/5
We looked at website for Sunday lunch. Said Sunday carvery and dogs welcome. Booked table for 4 adults and 3 children, weren't made to feel welcome when shown to table. No Sunday carvery, Sunday dinners were roast beef, roast chicken or roast belly pork, all meals seemed expensive with extras added on - Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, cauliflower cheese which normally would be included. Childrens menu was fine. When food arrived, well presented with side dishes, but these were delivered after we had started. We all felt uncomfortable during the meal and decided not to have dessert at these prices.
Excellent evening. Attentive friendly staff. Tasty, wholesome food. Attractive, open dining space. What's not to like. Martin and his team deserve high praise.
We had lunch here on a Saturday. Not too busy. Lovely pub, cosy, good vibe. One of our 4 meals was not great, and most of it was left. The manageress immediately apologised and took the meal off the bill. Brilliantly dealt with. Sadly the deserts were epic!
The service here was the poorest and least friendly we have experienced, the staff disinterested and unhelpful. The food itself was adequately edible but does not inspire to a return visit. And, over years, we had been regular and appreciative customers. No more.
On the 6th of March a few friends and I had spent the day travelling from Suffolk for a holiday and needed a good meal. Unfortunately we had to find a place we could also bring our dog - As it was recommended by the Landlord we headed down to The Blue Ball where we found that they are dog friendly in both the pub and restaurant. The pub is on the edge of the village with beautiful views in most directions and a beautiful old thatch roof building to host in such a lovely venue. When coming through the front door you find a lovely entrance way splitting the bar from the restaurant. It was only a momentary wait before being greeted by the staff with warm smiles before being led to a table. The interior of the restaurant side is open, spacious, well lit and well decorated with various paintings and brasses to break up the old style timber creating a warm and welcoming feeling. The cook times for each course varied between 10 and 15 minutes with only a short 5 minute wait for our drinks - The selection of drinks is wide and varied with many local ales and beers and ciders, as well as a very refreshing menu of non-alcoholic drinks too : The Blue Ball sports an impressive selection of wines giving me and my travelling companions a taste from home with a Pinotage from South Africa at a reasonable price. On each table dining, a bottle of water was given and refilled - With food that was served it is good to cleanse the pallet to enjoy every spectacle of flavour packed into each meal. Throughout the whole night we had wonderful service from all of the staff, they were all extremely well presented and punctual - they were all very expressive and happy to answer all questions we had for them. The staff create a wonderful vibe in the pub and keep a warm atmosphere. The pub itself has a bit of a Tardis effect, from the outside the building looks to be of a decent size, but once you find yourself walking around in the pub you find that it is so much bigger than it seems, With 3 distinct seating areas, a massive wrap around bar, carvery station and a private hall it seems to be the pub that just keeps on giving - The facilities in the pub look as if they had been cleaned regularly, with a good and open layout with plenty of room, with both a fragrant hand soap and hand cream both being offered. Furthermore there is a wonderful outside area with seating, ashtrays and blankets provided - A really nice touch to an otherwise great pub. Whilst we were on our holiday this pub was our local, and it really did make a great watering hole with loads of personality. The pub side of the venue with lovely and cosy with a fireplace and a unique touch I had not seen before - Trivial Pursuit cards on all of the tables, As a hospitality manager myself I love this concept, It worked well to keep all entertained on our nights out here - The regulars and other visitors of the pub where very warm and welcoming to us all - It definitely made our stay in Sidford. We will definitely be visiting again
