Really impressed with the experience from our stay at The Cow. The room, the food and the staff were all really really good. The breakfast in particular was superb. Better than many a "hotel" we have stayed in for sure. Would definitely return if needing to stay in the area.Rooms: 5/5
We had a room for two nights here whilst attending a wedding nearby. The rooms are very nicely furnished and comfortable. It was very warm when we stayed, but a fan was provided. The breakfast was excellent and a good choice. All in all, I would recommend. Rooms: Comfortable and nicely decorated. Food & drinks: Great breakfast and the dinner was very good quality. Maybe a little more choice for non seafood lovers.
Stayed here the night of our wedding and the night before. Overall wouldn’t recommend staying here. The rooms themselves were lovely and perfectly equipped for a wedding, but some of the behaviour of the staff was odd to say the least and I didn’t think the service matched the price we had paid. There were a couple of noteworthy incidents which I set out below, but generally everyone commented that the staff seems a little bit off/grumpy. We had booked all but one room at the inn. They were clearly very stressed about the breakfast situation and asked each person as they arrived what time they would be having their breakfast even after being told that the bride had made a plan for breakfast and would let them know when she arrived - they had already called earlier in the week asking that we stagger our breakfasts. They could only seat 4 at a time - not a huge deal but being from a medium sized family, 4 seemed a bit weak and overall it would have been nice to have been able to sit together. We were happy to stagger the breakfasts in groups of 4 and when they arrived they were good quality. We had booked an extra room on the first night with guests joining us the following day. We had pre agreed with the hotel that a groomsman who was getting ready with us the following day could have the breakfast attached to the room. However, later that morning on our wedding day, they demanded payment and would not let us use the iron again, on our wedding day, until they received payment for the breakfast. Ultimately we did not have to pay for the breakfast, but still strange behaviour, particularly given the amount it had costs to stay there for 2 nights.
We booked The Cow for our wedding guests and close family due to the proximity to Grange fields. Firstly I would not recommend staying here. Whilst the rooms are clean, welcoming and pleasant. The staff and the service are some of the poorest I have ever witnessed. It is clear it wasn't just a off day as reading the previous reviews all have experienced very similar. Prior to the stay all guests had paid balances in full and we had supplied guest names allocated to particular rooms. One guest tried to book the night before due to the cow having availability - only to be told they would need to check out at 11 to check back in later that day. Crazy as we had booked the whole of the cow and no need for that guest to do so. They decided to stay elsewhere as they needed to get ready prior to the wedding. Upon arrival at around 12 you are greeted by some of the most uninterested / rude staff. We were purely dropping bags prior to the wedding as agreed with the Cow. I passed this message on to other guests who would drop bags between 13:00-13:30. Guests were left feeling upcomfortable when told to put a scrap piece of paper on the bags in the bar and somebody would move them eventually. A few guests even asked for a drink upon arrival welcomed with a grunt and the bar man lifting a bottle of line cleaner before walking off. Eventually they asked again and were given warm bottles of beer. As mentioned we booked the whole venue, breakfast is clearly a issue for the Cow. Guests slowly made the way down to breakfast between 8am and 10am it was clear that they could not deal with anymore than 4 breakfasts at one time. Some guests were challenged surrounding checkout around 10:45am. Informing that they had to be out at 11. They had been waiting over one hour for breakfast and still nothing. I would think twice before booking this establishment for a wedding and certainly if you are looking at putting part of your wedding party here. Please take the inconvenience of travel otherwise you will be left feeling guilty as your friends and family have paid over £200 for one of the worst nights stay they will have.
This is, by far, the best Sunday lunch around. I love the location of the pub, the country style interior and the atmosphere is lovely. The staff are really friendly and attentive. I want to stay in one of the rooms next time. Love it!
The Father’s Day meal at 2 courses for £25 we had yesterday was fantastic, the best salmon and prawn cocktail I have had! the atmosphere was friendly and inviting and the table service couldn’t have been any better. Definitely recommend Service: 5/5
We just had Sunday lunch at The Cow and loved it. The service and food was outstanding. The Sunday menu is much smaller that other days, and this took a few of our group by surprise, however I think it turned out to be a good thing. Everything we ordered was cooked to perfection, the veg was clearly fresh and the dish presentation was also superb. Also, the portion sizes were great - not to small or to large. The service was friendly, very professional and I would say confident. Thanks for a great lunch!
Stayed for 1 night. Room was spacious and very nicely furnished to a high standard. Dinner and breakfast were very good. The pub, somewhat contradicting it's name, has particularly good seafood, but there are steaks on the menu.Rooms: 5/5
Very disappointed with my stay this weekend. The 'special offer' of £385 was booked a while back - the current price for the same is £320. Out of goodwill, it would have been nice when this was pointed out to perhaps have met us halfway with some drinks - we did get an average bottle of wine compensation. First room was alright but all the water stopped midst shower! Changed room and the same happened and then it was resolved - a very unpleasant experience and again, a complimentary drink in the bar would have gone a long way. This place is expensive for a pub and the room at best would be 3* - room 6 is fine our friends were in that one. Don't plan a long stay - nowhere to put clothes and the hanging space had just two hangers - had to ask for more - this should have been checked beforehand. Food was excellent and the bar staff were lovely - sadly let down by the attitude of the general manager who needs some upskilling on 'going the extra mile with customer service'. With customer service you only get one opportunity to get things right! - after that it's remedial. A little gesture would have gone a long way. The nice touches are Molton Brown toiletries, but to be honest would have preferred a better attitude from management. Overall I cannot say I had an enjoyable stay :- The weekend was great because we were with amazing friends - we could have stayed anywhere and still had a good time.
Not sure if we were just unlucky, the whole experience was unpleasant. Firstly the staff seemed inconvenienced by us being there strange secondly we were asked to move from a table with our drinks, t wasn't set for dining ,so we moved nobody sat at the table for at least half an hour Thirdly,we had booked to eat, our food wasn't as we had hoped from the advertising on the website. Disappointed
