To be honest I had no real idea of what The Bell would be like when I booked it. The location was convenient for a function we were attending elsewhere. What a revelation, this place is amazing. You have to consider that the "project " is ongoing, but this doesn't impact on anything. The standards are great. Service, welcome and the whole experience was amazing. While entering the bedroom, the standard of which it had been decorated and furnished to was just way above what you could have expected. Only down side was that we were only staying the one night.
Thought we'd be staying in a room above the pub, so a little surprised that the rooms are converted barns at the back - but offered good amount of space.  Wasn't plugged in to central heating so a little cold initially, but electric radiators in the room to plug in solved the problem.  Evening menu was restricted to pizzas - a temporary measure we were told - but that wasn't too inconvenient as Rye is 5 mins drive away.  It's almost got a camping feel as you open the door in the morning and see the lawn outside - definitely plan to go back. Food & drinks: English breakfast included, pizzas only in evening
A beautiful pub with lovely hosts. Incredibly stylish decor and a very pretty garden. A real hidden gem. Didn't eat whilst I was there but it looked and smelled very nice indeed.
The roast pork dinner I had was delicious, a huge lump.of pork and good selection of well cooked vegetables. I have deducted one star because the precariously balanced, gigantic Yorkshire pudding full of gravy was so unsteady that, as soon as I touched it, it toppled over and cascaded gravy over the table. It tasted lovely but perhaps should be served less precariously. I would eat there again but just be more cautious.
Came over for a week holiday from Guernsey, catching up with family. Spent the week eating out and feeling quite disappointed with the quality of the food. However, I had a lamb curry here and it was probably the best curry I have ever eaten. I had bacalava for desert and that was sensational too. The food, wine and hospitality was faultless 100/100! Highly recommend!
Amazing food. The wraps are divine, and the vine leaf starters and baba ganoush are delicious. The young barmen were so attentive and helpful. 10/10 for service!! Very cute pub dog! The beer garden was disappointing.
We just had a really lovely meal at The Bell, Iden which included starters, main meal and a gorgeous surprise, chocolate mousse birthday cake, with singing to accompany it. Great service from all the staff, especially from Jodie. Always good to arrive a little earlier and have a pre dinner drink in the cosy snug area with log burner, while listening to jazz music. .
My husband used to visit the beautiful Village of Iden when he was a kid and whenever we are down that way we always pop to Iden and visit the Bell. Tried to book a room on numerous occasions but it was always booked up. Finally managed to book a weekend away in January this year and it was absolutely fantastic. Lovely accommodation and fully equipped with everything you need to make your stay comfortable. Vic who runs the Bell inn is a brilliant host and really made myself, husband and our Dog feel very welcome and we enjoyed our stay so much that we booked again for the husbands birthday and have just returned from another fantastic weekend. Will definitely be back again soon
Menu isn't to my liking nor is £16 for a wrap and £32 for a stake. But the reason I'm unhappy was because the new own likes to agree to something then go back on what we I actually spoke about to then be told they've only opened for me at 9am because I wanted breakfast and wouldn't open usually until 12 but the funny thing was on the way out there's a great big sign put out by the road saying breakfast served from 9am so Mr new owner I suggest you stop trying to pull a fast one, by making your customers feel they are in the wrong for getting you out of bed when it clearly says 9 a.m. breakfast served I had a really good evening until I had to deal with you in the morning with your childish behaviour. Because ultimately its resulted in this bad review
We were a group of 10, staying in the village for the weekend, and were encouraged by good reviews, so visited on a Saturday evening. The menu sounded lovely, and everyone chose something they were happy with. The waitress explained they were short staffed, and apologised that we waited for our drinks. Main meals were nice, everyone was happy. We wanted pudding, but we weren't able to order for some time as the waitress didn't come back. We wrote down our order and took it to the bar. We had been told they needed our table by 8, so were conscious not to take too long. The waitress seemed reluctant to lay out the cutlery, worried that we wouldn't finish in time. Puddings arrived, which we finished quickly, feeling that we needed to rush. They were disappointing considering the price £5.50 each. When we told the waitress, she said they were willing to take one thing off the menu, but not the rest of the puddings we were unhappy about. On this experience, we wouldn't return if in the area again.
