We haven't been here for several years, as the previous owners had let standards slip. Very pleased that we returned, new people running the pub, good selection of drinks, main menu and a Specials board, very clean, polite staff, everything was spot on. The food was delicious and a generous serving. Looking forward to returning in a couple of weeks.
Absolute gem of a place. The food is amazing, the staff are all friendly and very helpful we had a lovely meal and following that a few weeks later we had a wake for my late Father in the Bear room. Plenty of food in the buffet, everyone was really empathetic with just the right amount of attentiveness, as it was a difficult day for us. Thank you Noteworthy details: Set in a beautiful location overlooking countryside, the pub itself is cosy and welcoming
Firstly the main room was freezing & empty no other customers was in there we asked to be moved to other room main bar room where there was a fire and much warmer has we was cold but this request was declined please bear in mind we had children with us ' Who wants to sit eating there dinner cold !! Price has risen to £16.95 for "roast" beef dinner the meat was not roasted and definitely not carved of a joint its was more like packet sandwich meat from supermarket the dinner arrived cold & the portions was small and left our party still feeling hungry. We used to go to the bear often especially when it was a carvery but we will not be returning again in the future its gone down hill massively. For anyone who is thinking of visiting the bear and expecting it to be decent don't was your time or money Left feeling frustrated and unsatisfied
We turned up without a reservation and was offered a great table by the fire. The place was really great and the staff super friendly. The food was amazing! we had 2 roasts of the Christmas menu, they are both really filling and really tasty.Service: 5/5
Went for a Christmas meet up with family at the dog friendly Bear Inn. The food was mixed, the mains were great and very generous, the deserts less so and a bit of a disappointment. The service was ok, they were all really friendly but at times it was difficult to get hold of anyone. The dining areas are spread across multiple rooms which makes it feel cosy. All said and done, I would happily come back to dine here again.
Service is amazing- everyone is very welcoming and friendly. The food is absolutely scrumptious. I had the chicken floretine and it was cooked beautifully. The sauce, veg and garlic potatoes were gorgeous too. Best meal I have had in ages. My partner has the steak and ale pie, which too, was delicious. They happily allowed us stay overnight in our motorhome and accommodated the dogs in the pub too. Thank you.
Great to see The Beat open again lovely food and good beer. The room where we eat could have been a bit warmer. No fire and the radiator was cold.Service: 5/5
After a walk in shining cliff woods we had booked a table at the bear. We ordered 3 lamb dinners £18 per head also 3 drinks. The staff were friendly . When the meals arrived I was not impressed. The veg was OK, BUT the thin fatty lamb floating in my gravy looked more like a soup. It was the thinnest I have ever seen lamb cut .Not to mention the small portions. When asked if everything was OK, i said No, I'm not happy with the lamb. The waiter replied. "I shall tell chef. I ended up paying for the meals & leaving without any apology or explanation. I think this was very poor to what it used to be when they did a fantastic carvery.
We had a fantastic Sunday lunch at this lovely character-filled and nicely finished pub. The food itself was absolutely excellent with very generous portions. The vegetarian nut roast I had was excellent and the chicken which another of our party ordered was also perfectly cooked. These were all accompanied by very generous portions of fresh vegetables and a rich cauliflower cheese. This was followed up by some - again - very delicious desserts with a good selection for vegan and gluten-free diners. To top it off, the service was very quick and the staff friendly and attentive. We can easily say we’ll definitely return if we’re in the area again and I’ll definitely be recommending to others. Thank you!
We enjoyed the Sunday roast - four adults. The bar and table staff were efficient and friendly. We had the choice of pork or beef with usual trimmings. It was quiet when we visited and it felt that the atmosphere was lacking but this was no detriment to the staff. Overall - recommended.
