Great place to stay, with amazing food. Room was lovely, if a little on the cool side. Location was perfect, snd staff were absolutely lovely.nThe only minor downside was that the room I was in was not massively accessible. I'm pretty fit and able, but lugging my luggage around some of the staircases was a bit of a challenge!nExcellent overall.
I really wish I could give this hotel more stars. Upon arrival it looks fine from the outside, if a little run down. We checked in and were asked if we wanted to book in for dinner, which we didn't. It's a good job really as we were then informed the alcohol licence for the hotel had expired so they were unable to serve alcohol, which they claimed was a surprise them. Walking through to the room, the hallways are quite run down and need some work. The paintwork was scuffed everywhere and the carpet quite thin and worn. In the bedroom the bed was nice enough and it looked like the bathroom had been recently renovated. The windows were completely condensated and the glass looked awful in them, so you couldn't see out, which appeared to be the case with all the windows. On our second day I came down with food poisoning, I'm not saying this was due to the hotel but I had only eaten the breakfast there all that day and nothing else. This resulted in me not being able to attend my spa booking the following morning. My husband went down to cancel and they were very understanding and said they would process a refund, however, no refund came, so I followed this up to then be told I couldn't have a refund, despite being previously told I could. It seems communication in the hotel is not good at all. The location is really good and you're straight out into Matlock Bath, and if you're visiting for the illuminations, they are literally at the bottom of the road to the hotel so the location is great for that.
We loved our stay here and felt it was great value for money. The lido was incredible to visit and swim in... such a bonus and unique feature for the hotel. The location was ideal. We had a lovely big room too. Yes, the hotel and rooms are a bit tired looking and in need of modernisation. But if the hotel were to revamp and up the quality of rooms and service, it would probably become a pricey stay.
Location great but the hotel is no more than 2 star. Rooms accessed via an ally around the back. Zero security.nTold morning of stay about alcohol licence. Assuming so we couldn't cancel.nVery disappointed.nVery few guests. Saw no one eating there.nTown lively and full of nice pubs with good food.nWould not stay in this hotel ever again.
Would stay away if you want to use spa sauna and steam room, staff ket giving us every excuse under the sun to not turn the sauna on. first it was we don’t know how to use it, they then asked for payment which we kindly offered to doexpecting we wouldn’t pay then said it takes an hours to warm up, lastly they said the spa manager had left so the spa is closed all together at that point only 4:30 in the afternoon!nShould just be called a hotel as they do not want you to use the facilities
