My parents lived in Montreal, and when I ask them about it, they bring up the bagels. I've been curious about what makes them so good. We luckily have a Montreal-style bagel shop here in London, and I arrived at the answer today. The shop is called Old Bagel House and is found on Baseline Rd and McGregor Ave. Old Bagel House bagels taste better because they’re made better. It’s all down to there special process. Fresh bagels are boiled in honey water to give a shiny crust look. They then bake the bagels in a wood burning oven for 12 to 15 minutes which gives them that perfect chewy texture. Here, you can either build your own sandwich, or stick with sandwiches on their menu. And even if you choose one from the menu, they still get you to choose a bagel flavour onion, garlic, whole wheat, cinnamon raisin, etc.. I got two from their menu: the Bagel with Montreal Smoked Meat, and the Bagel with Lox Salmon & Cream Cheese. The butter croissant was underwhelming. I suppose I could have added some butter or toppings, however. My chocolate eclair was somewhat better. This had whipped cream but would be improved with actual custard. The cream horn, my third pastry, did have custard and was best of the three. The bill was $32, including my drink of Ocho Rios fruit punch nectar. Old Bagel House has mastered the art of bagel-making, and you should try them. They’re that good.
Very welcoming environment, and employees. Started off with a pumpernickel bagel and dill cream cheese followed by onion with herb and garlic. Nice presentation and everything!Food: 5/5
So glad we discovered this place while hunting for locally made Montreal style bagels! So many options and several flavoured cream cheeses to choose from. Pictured below from two visits and some of goodies we’ve brought home. Excellent service. Happy to support this business.
Love this place, not only are the bagels amazing but the amount of options you can choose from between the cream cheese and bagels themselves are unlimited. The sandwiches are mouth watering, whether it's breakfast or lunch. The family that owns it are very nice and accommodating. They always make sure you leave with a smile on your face. If I could give a 1000 stars I would.
grocery store bagels can’t hold a candle to these bagels! We use to always go to the location in Dundas and now that we are living in London so happy to see that this incredible bagel shop is here! The bagels are great, and cream cheese is Food: 5/5
We have been here a few times now and haven't found anything we don't like yet! The bagels are excellent, the knishes are flavorful, and the pastry desserts are flaky and fresh. Considering how hard it is to find some of the specialty foods they sell, their prices are also fairly decent.Food: 5/5
I went because they claim to make Montreal bagels. As soon as I looked at them in the rack, I knew they were not Montreal bagels. The server actually got quite insistent that they’ve had multiple stores in Toronto so they are Montreal bagels. Didn’t really understand the logic there. I thought I’d give them a try and was very disappointed although they are better than Dempsters. They clearly are not as good as other Montreal bagels that I’ve had.
The best bagel spot in London! As a bread aficionado, we can confirm that these bagels are the best in town. A family business with great hours to boot, we are customers for life!Food: 5/5
I have been looking for good quality bagels for ages. Well I have finally found it! Way better than the bagels I've had. I bought half a dozen sesame bagels and also got one toasted with cream cheese to go. I bought a small container of their cream cheese to take home. The taste, quality and service is excellent! A little piece of bright sunshine brought into my day!
I bought a dozen bagels and some assorted cream cheeses . The owner and staff were very kind and helpful. The bagel are baked in a wood fire oven and there is a wide variety of kinds. Best Montreal style bagels I will be back! The shop was nicely busy.
