The Anchor Inn

About

Coastal Inns & Taverns Ltd.

Story

The Anchor is situated at the very heart of the Cowes Yachting scene. Opposite the Cowes Yacht Haven and only a short walk from the Red Jet terminal it is the ideal place to relax after a hard day on the waves. The Anchor offers you good food, good ale and a warm welcome throughout the year.

In 1704 the Debourne Estate in Cowes leased the land called St Mary's mead on which the Anchor now stands, for 99 years to one Ladowyke Brandenburg, a victualler. Called the 'House of the Three Trumpeters' it became the principle coaching inn of Cowes. The name changed to the 'Anchor Inn' in the 1820's. Traditional Ales and hearty fare make the Anchor a fine place to eat.

Open all year round and offering a choice of daily specials from the blackboard, the Anchor is always full of atmosphere. Summertime eat outside in the stable yard; Winter draw in by the blazing fire and wile away a few hours.

Had a quick lunch here and it was delicious. 2 of us had the loaded fries amazing and one the soup, homemade bowl of yummy!!nDrinks seemed pretty expensive, but food was reasonable.nWill be going back.
A lovely rambling pub that just seems to keep on going. The bar is straight ahead when you enter, but there are rooms all around, including a pool table and a sizeable outdoor area out the back. One of our group had some white bait, which was lovely, but even the four of use couldn't finish it. If this is the standard, you won't go hungry here. It was a quietish afternoon when we were there, but the staff were up for a chat and very pleasant. I can't remember what the other guy's were drinking, but I don't remember any complaints. The Guinness was excellent.
Popped in here for lunch today with my family as we were on holiday. Came here last hear and it was even better than we remember, super friendly bar team and good food prices with stunning quality and quirky choices. Nice little find that's for sure.
Super Sunday. Popped in with 6 friends. Managed to get a great table and enjoy drinks and food. Generous portions of delicious meals with the added bonus of a knowledgeable member of bar staff who had the ability to serve several customers at the same time so that no one was waiting. Obviously a descendant from Octopus!!nnProper pub in a great location.
Excellent and friendly service. Mark very welcoming and pleasant. Room clean. Evening g meal tasty and plentiful.
