Friendly, accommodating staff and the chef was happy to tailor a meal to our needs, which was great.nnThe food was fairly big portions and nice. Very tasty. A good amount of options to choose from at standard pub prices.nnThe decor is nice and bright and attractive. The leatherette dining chairs are super comfortable.nnA popular pub with locals but also very welcoming to tourists and well-situated for visitors to Osborne House across the road.nnThere's a garden with outside seating but I haven't been out there since it got renovated, so I can't comment on that.nnDisabled access is tricky it's an old building and the car park could do with a bit of attention.nnI went with a friend who has been a patron for around 70 years and still a fan. She likes the newest version.
I have had the pleasure to stay here a few times now and it is my go too place whenever I stay on the IOW whilst working. The pub has a good atmosphere and the rooms are clean and comfortable. The food is superb and the English breakfast is a perfect start to a long day ahead. Tonight I had the steak and ale pie with mash and it nearly beat me but it was too delicious to waste so I went to my room bursting at the seams.
Right across the street from where Queen Victoria lived half her life, we had a lovely visit! Was the only place with a room that we could book the night-of for under £100, and it exceeded our expectations for the price. They even stayed open a little past their closing time to let us check in. Smashing breakfast, lovely host, would definitely come again!
An unpretentious pub offering a warm and friendly welcome. We enjoyed a Friday evening meal here as an extended family. The staff went above and beyond to help me conceal cupcakes for a pre-birthday celebration and the locals were very welcoming too! Our food was freshly cooked and the portions ample. We recommended the pub to others who went for lunch the next day and had the same positive experience. If we are staying in the area again, we won’t hesitate to go back.
Wow the food has taken a step up. Had our wedding anniversary dinner there last night and so pleased. The barmaid couldn't have been more helpful, not the waiter. They were having a problem with the ale so it took ages to settle so she took the beers out to me rather than have me wait at the bar. The pie was incredible! If I had to be picky the crust was a little tough right at the edge on the crimp. No problem though as I asked for extra gravy and they brought out a jug of delightfully thick gravy. The steak and mushroom filling was incredibly rich, and the mash very nice. Might have made the mast not look like it had just come out of a container but who cares.nMy wife has a prawn and chilli tagliatelle which she thoroughly enjoyed. Really had a great time and the beer garden is lovely.
