The Anchor

About

The Anchor is a place of comfort to enjoy real ale, ciders, craft beers, wine, spirits and even cocktails, modern drinking in a traditional boozer.

Story

The Anchor is one of the oldest public houses in Digbeth, Birmingham, England, dating back to 1797. The current building was constructed in 1901 to a design by James and Lister Lea for the Holt Brewery Company. The terracotta on the façade is believed to have come from the Hathern Station Brick and Terracotta Company of Loughborough. On 10 December 1991 the building was designated Grade II listed building status, along with other nearby pubs such as the White Swan. The pub won the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) award of 'Regional Pub of the Year' in 1996/7, 1998/9, 2003/4 and again 2007/8. Taken over By Raising Bars LTD on 8Th August 2016 - Julian Rose-Gibbs and his team including Jacob Clarke and Jason McGreen began sympathetically refurbishing the boozer without closing to enable the regulars and existing staff to become part of the transformation. We have updated The Anchor (we lost the 'INN' bit owing to not having rooms or food available) without losing any of the character. Firstly we brought the standard of ale back to what it should be, widened the selection of drinks available then trained the staff on the service of the wine, cocktail, gin and Boilermaker drinks lists. Finally we gave her a lick of paint and a lot of love to create a comfortable space for you to enjoy your drink/catch-up or celebration.

A cracking pub just behind Digbeth Coach Station. Small, attractive outdoor area, great music, eye-pleasing interior architecture, friendly staff, and the epitome of a great publican in the name of Jules. Do yourself a favour and pop in for a pint
Little bit out of the city centre - worth’s visit - friendly staff and chilled atmosphere
two days ago was our first time we went to this place. But It is absolutely not the last. We enjoyed the evening a lot with the courteous service, with the superb cuisine and wine and with the modest charge. We will absolutely return there soon.
Would absolutely recommend trying out this place. Great mood, flavorful food, excellent customer service. Great work.
Always a great time, guidance followed and clear guidelines around the bar
