Story

Welcome to Tatton Park

Tatton Park is one of the UK’s most complete historic estates. It is home to a Medieval Old Hall, Neo-Classical Mansion, 50 acres of landscaped gardens, a rare-breed farm and 1,000 acres of deer park. Our speciality shops, restaurant, adventure playground, events and educational programmes combine to make Tatton one of the most popular family days out in the North West.

The Old Hall was the estate manor house until the late 17th century, when work commenced on a new house. The Neo Classical Mansion, is celebrated for its Gillows furniture and collection of ceramics, paintings and books. The library collection is considered one of the finest in the National Trust.

50 acres of beautiful gardens reflect over 250 years of garden design. The gardens are renowned for their remarkable glasshouses, the Japanese Garden, considered the finest in Europe and the extensive Kitchen Gardens.

The working rare-breed farm is a must-see for our family visitors. Meet our rare breed cattle, horses, sheep, pigs, goats, poultry and donkeys and take part in themed events throughout the year.

Herds of Red and Fallow deer roam freely in 1,000 acres of parkland. The meres, woodlands and rough grassland provide a perfect habitat for wildlife. The parkland is a stunning setting for a leisurely stroll or high-octane cycle. Children adore the adventure playground.

Tatton hosts over 100 events a year including the RHS Flower Show, Summer Picnic Concerts with the Hallé Orchestra, car shows, antiques fairs and much more.

For nearly 400 years the estate was the property of the Egerton family until it was bequeathed to the National Trust in 1958. It is financed and maintained by Cheshire East Council.

This place is massive. The house is closed at the moment, if you have children or dog(s) then this is the place to bring them. There is plenty of walking to do around the estate. If you like to ride your bike, but difficult to bring them with you they do have a bike hire shop, but get there early so you can pick & choose your bike. Keep an eye on their website for when the house opens because it's full of history, for adults & your children.

Fabulous day out, we were there all day and there's plenty to do. Loved the gardens, mansion and farm, walked miles! It's a real adventure walking the garden, enormous, spectacular trees from all over the world. Food in the restaraunt is pretty good and they have soya milk for non dairy drinkers. The staff in the farm were great, each one happy to talk about the animals with a smile on their faces and clearly a love for the animals, who all looked really well cared for. Seeing their 7 week old Shire foal was a joy. In the mansion any questions asked of the volunteers (dotted about, kept to themselves unless asked) enlightened us more than just reading the information sheets, enjoyed the conversations and valued their knowledge and enthusiasm! I can't recommend the whole place enough.

Fantastic day out exploring Tatton and playing in the adventure park. Food in the cafe was great too. Our children had a fantastic time and were covered in mud by the end - just the way they should be after a day in the countryside!

This place is great for a family day out. There’s loads of things to do that are outdoorsy - big play area, wildlife, farm, treks, garden walks, open land etc. There’s plenty of room for a picnic and there’s plenty of sites to see - the onsite farm, the hall etc. Personally, I find the pricing to be way over-the-top! Food and drinks are about average, maybe slightly higher but attraction prices are extortionate. Overall I’d go once a year at most and be happy to pay for it.

This is one of our regular places, we go all through the year as we're NT nembers. It's a great place to wonder if you just like walking. Gardens are vast and beautiful. The house is a must see. The cafes are always costly so either take a picnic if you don't want to spend a lot. It's a full day out.
