Hands down the most fascinating museum in Edinburgh. I cannot express enough how amazing and interesting this museum is to the curious mind. One of the best parts was the Blood and Guts walking tour with Jerry that’s Jerry with a J. He was an incredible guide, was funny, and showed a lot of areas and history of Edinburgh that breathed life into the museum’s subject matter. Well worth a visit and don’t miss the tour!
Interesting museum in Edinburgh following the history of surgery from earliest efforts to modern day robotics.nnA smaller museum, it is broken up into a number of areas with displays of instruments and procedures, historical perspective, and some interactive exhibits.nnThe wife really enjoyed the forensic area and the preserved specimens. My favorite was the robotic surgery machine and the fact that you could use it.nnWell worth the admission is you even have a passing interest in medicine or surgery.
This is a wild experience. Not for the faint of tummy but was quite informative both about our history in medicine, and about current tech technologies as they continue to evolve. Some of it is interactive, which is lovely!
The Surgeons’ Hall Museum was one of the most fascinating museums I visited in Edinburgh, it reminds me of the Hunterian Museum in London.nnThe collection is incredibly extensive, covering the history of surgery, medicine, and anatomy in a really detailed way. While also having Hematology diseased body parts, modern medicine and the temporary Women in Medicine exhibits. I think we spent about an hour and a half here but we didn't really go into detail as it did get a bit repetitive.nnAdmittedly, after a while it did also make me feel a bit nauseous — some of the specimens are very graphic — but that’s also what makes the museum so interesting and educational.nnI also really enjoyed the exhibition focusing on women in medicine, which was thoughtful and very interesting. It was great to see the contributions of women surgeons and medical pioneers highlighted.nnThe receptionist was super lovely and friendly, which made the visit start on a very welcoming note. The entry price was also very reasonable for the quality of the museum.nnOne thing to note is that you’re not allowed to take photos inside, which makes sense given the nature of some of the exhibits.
Fascinating museum with quite the collection! There is a huge selection of pathology= body parts in jars. No photography allowed inside.
