incredible! me and my partner spent 3 hours here doing sketches & writing notes of some specimens on display. wish i had more time and energy to study everything. brilliant experience, recommend it to everyone!Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
If you're not a medicine field related student, but still are curious about the history of this subject, I would totally recommend paying a visit to this site for many reasons: you'll come across the first studies of the body itself, how the first autopsies were conducted and registered and will have the opportunity to see medical equipment from the past and its latest releases in the field. The entrance isn't free, but they have a student discount on the entrance tickets. Also, because they have human remains displayed there in jars to show many many types of diseases, photography is not allowed.
For those interested in the body and the history of medicine, this museum is worth the visit. Fascinating exhibits from hundreds of specimens and tools to interactive body exhibits. No photos allowed so you can just take it all in.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Spread over multiple floors, this is a fascinating insight into the human body with displays of human remains showcasing various different ailments, diseases, tumors etc. There are some interactive elements too though one that looked like it was part of an operating theatre was unfortunately out of order. Careful though, may make you a bit nauseous. Because of the actual human remains, photography indoors is forbidden.
A very educational and interesting museum. As a non-medical person it was a very fascinating visit. My partner, who is a proud member of the NHS, has said this was one her favourite places we visited while in Edinburgh and I'm sure she would have stayed for several hours longer than we did if she had the chance. There weren't many interactive stations that would appeal to young people below the age of 13 however. Anyone looking to understand and a little more about the history of surgical procedures and the strong link with Edinburgh should definitely visit.
Pretty cool! Well organized. Map was helpful to get around. Really interesting displays. Not allowed to take photos of the exhibitsVisited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
Place with staggering amount of medical exhibits. Not for the squeamish ! Human body parts in display cases Interesting video exhibition about surgeons history Highly recommend but sadly no photos allowed.
Graduation ceremony! Grand reception and an amazing ceremony. And a proud moment! Also has a great museum, which should be visited by anyone with interest in medicine
It was a very interesting and informative visit for me. Relatively large exposure of organs and parts of the body or bones. You can see what different diseases, disabilities and injuries look like. You can't take photos. I recommend use the student discount and 2 hours have. ! I definitely do not recommend it to people who faint only at the sight of blood or who do not like horror movies.
Read somewhere before going that the visit took about 2hours, thought this was the perfect activity for a sunday afternoon...well, 2hrs was not enough time at all! Every room I visited was absolutely fascinating. I rushed through a few of them as the museum was closing. The specimens in jars reminded me of le Jardin des Plantes in Paris. I really enjoyed my visit. £8.5 adult entry fee really reasonnable for the amount of exhibits and captivating at that.
