I went to the National Museum in London the same week spending 6 hours there, and I love how this temporary exhibition gave the same experience -be it on a MUCH smalle scale- in just an hour.
This is an nice addition if you've just visited Holyrood Palace House. The collection is called "Victoria & Albert; Our Lives in Watercolour". The paintings illustrate the places they visited and scenes from their lives including their various homes. They provide an insight into their public and private lives both at home and abroad.
I visited the gallery to have a look at the da Vinci exhibition. A large number of his drawings and drafts were on display and was an excellent opportunity to look at the more intimate works of the master and examine them closely. Unfortunately, some of the staffs were chatting quite loudly amongst themselves, which I found distracting.
This is not my usual choice of places to visit. I chose to visit The Palace of Holyroodhouse with restrictions I thought only to get an email confirmation for Windsor Castle as The Palace is currently closed to the public. I did manage to easily get the booking switched. A phone number is given which can be contacted 7 days a week. I did not rate the audio guide as it only covered about half, if that, of the pictures that are on display. It is not a large collection and you could comfortably get round in about an hour. I took less than that as I had a later booking for another venue, some distance away by bus on a Sunday. There are pictures by very well known artists with descriptions of them all. I am not sure how long this display will be open to the public in Edinburgh but guess that it will be available at several other venues. I apologise for my choice of photos . I particularly liked only two pictures and only took photos of one of those two.
We did enjoy visiting “Russia, Royalty and The Romanovs” exhibition today at The Queen’s Gallery! Great customer service! This place should be part of the Castle visit free pass though.
The exhibition in the Queen's Gallery is really good but they make it very difficult to purchase tickets for ONLY the exhibition online. We ended up buying 2 combined tickets coming to over £40, only to find out on arriving we could've paid about £15. However, it meant we visited the Palace which was actually pretty good, if expensive.
This is a beautifully appointed gallery. The artwork presentation is superb and the gallery size quite intimate. Definitely worth considering. Very friendly place too.
The Queen's Gallery is a really cool place to visit. I liked checking out all the various works of art that is loaned to this gallery.
Great selection of art with even better audio guide. We'll worth the trip even though the gallery is small .
Went for a special talk, stayed for hours in the galleries! Great exhibit of masterpieces with corresponding explanations plus the complimentary audio explanations with special speakers adding to the experience. And everyone of the staff were cheerful & thoughtful, adding to the enjoyment.
