I recommend this place to anyone and everyone!! Came her with my girlfriend on a Tuesday night and we had a great meal. Food is amazing and the staff are so friendly! The only bad thing is that it was so quiet, we were the only ones there by half 8; it's a shame as it deserves more people!! I definitely will be coming back more and more often!
great restaurant overall. nicely hidden in woods, really good food, chef knew what he is doing. great selection of wines and beers, nice vibe in the restaurant and the friendliest of staff & owners. we were on weekend retreat and the restaurant made my day. Will defo come back again!
Very much a 'Destination Pub'. Fantastic food, great atmosphere, friendly staff and Maggie/Darren, the Landlords, are a couple who make you feel truly welcome. The inside of the pub is cozy and inviting, the area at the back ideal for families with children. Thankyou for always making our visits a delight.
Fantastic turkey roast !! Kids had pizza and fish and chips, they loved it! Owner are really nice! Will definitely recommend ! Don't forget to book to avoid disappointment !!
After attending a family wedding, the casual reception was held at the sun and the wood. I was disgusted at the attitude of the barman, not only was he rude but appeared disinterested in providing a pleasant customer experience for myself and other members of the wedding party. Considering the amount of money spent vs what appeared a typically slow afternoon, his lack of enthusiasm surprised us all. Overall very disappointed.
We went to the Sun in the Wood for a pre-Christmas get together at 7.30pm on Friday 11th December with friends in a party of 15. Things did not bode well when we arrived as two of our party ordered gin and tonics and were told that they had run out of normal tonic and only had diet tonic. In addition to this a few of the male friends ordered 6X which was cloudy to say the least but the barman assured us that it was alright. Next problem was the wine - two glasses of Merlot apparently used up their entire stock of Merlot and we were given a choice of Rioja or Cabernet Sauvignon. When we took our seats at the table and ordered three bottles of red wine with the meal it appeared that we had then also used their stock of these wines too as when we asked for an additional bottle we were told that the only bottle they had left was a Malbec which was more expensive but they would give us a discount! They served the Malbec and told us that there was no more red wine. So unbelievably, the red wine had run out at 9.30pm. We asked for jugs of water for the table but were told that all their jugs were in use elsewhere and we would have to wait until they became available. On a positive note the food was excellent, beautifully cooked and well presented. The service was reasonable, the young staff were running around trying to do their best for us but we were not impressed to find out that the landlords were upstairs having taken the night off. At the end of the meal we were not offered coffee, it seemed as if they wanted us out as quickly as possible so that they could clear the tables. A great shame as the venue is welcoming and smart but there is clearly a problem with the drinks ordering and stock.
On mondays they do 2 pizzas for £10.great pizzas.nice wine.staff very friendly.recommended!!! I would add we have also eaten from the main menu here recently, very good.don't worry about the old reviews....new ownership and pub been refurbished.very cosy and welcoming.
We are never disappointed when we visit. Great food, great service with friendly and helpful staff. Lovely beer garden too! Highly recommended
It is ok, but the food is not overly exciting. Just sort of average. They also ripped out the kids play area when the new management took over, making it quote unfriendly for families.
Had a great triple meat roast, veg was nice, The staff were very nice and charged my flat phone for me while I dined. Would go again if in the area.
