Very nice hotel with a lot of history and perfectly located in the city center. Can be a bit noisy in the evening though as Canterbury is lively and true windows are single glazed due to grade 1 listing. But if you go out in the evening and enjoy yourselves then problem solved.. ; The history of the place is fascinating and there is a lovely little tapas restaurant just underneath the hotel.
Really lovely hotel and owner. The restaurant is very good too. I stayed in the Dickens room, it was amazing, try get it if it's available Hotel highlightsLuxury, Great view, Romantic
Had a lovely romantic stay, the staff were really friendly and told us some history and gave us a tour of the hotel when we came in which was so nice. Our room had a jacuzzi and lovely beams and a really nice view of Canterbury. Location and breakfast was excellent and had real luxurious vibes for a good rate so definitely good value for money
Amazing amazing hotel. The manager was so kind to us and if you are lucky enough to stay in the Charles dickens room you will never forget it. Fantastic location, very beautifulRooms: 5/5
Friendly, warm, charming, historic Very hospitable and helpful. Room was lovely, bed very comfortable. Plenty of tea coffee all complimentary. Towels, bedding provided also a fan got warm hairdryer and tv with usual freeview channels. Everyone friendly and warm. Quick history of the grade 2 listed building, jacuzzi bath. Clean throughout, will definitely be visiting again this time taking my daughter. I don't think the hotel is wheelchair accessible which is a shame however with strict controls on listed buildings this is not in the owners control. Access to hotel is via the restaurant just look for the El Sol sign. Nearby activities: Right in the centre of canterbury, canterbury tales, cathedral, lazy boat rides, theatres libraries and town centre with bucketloads of history. Walkability: Everything is in reach, you wouldn't need a car. Food & drinks: Tapas bar downstairs. Staff amazing very clean.
We loved our experience at the Sun Hotel so much that we came back for round two! This is a really charming hotel where you’re welcomed as part of the family. You get a beautiful cooked breakfast and the restaurant El Sol downstairs is an absolute 10/10. This is a definite must stay if you’re in the Canterbury area! I can safely say we’ll be back the next time we’re in Canterbury :
My fiance and I absolutely loved this little hotel. The owners are so friendly and helpful and the rooms really take you back in time and are very cozy. If we ever make it back to the U.K. I will make sure we come back and stay here at The Sun Hotel!! Rooms: They are small and cozy with the perfect amount of amenities for modern people. Yet they feel like they take you back in time to how people used to travel! Nearby activities: In the heart of Canterbury shopping mall, as well as a 100m walk to Canterbury Cathedral! Walkability: Finding parking can be tricky for your stay, but once you do you'll not need your car again once your here. If you're only here for a day you won't be able to see everything there is so much to do near by. Food & drinks: The hotel restaurant is fantastic if you don't want to venture too far. If you do there is plenty to eat and drink within a very short walking distance. Noteworthy details: Built in 1480, it's by far one the oldest still operating hotels! Charles Dickinson himself stayed here and has a room named for him, where he stayed.
A very unique and charming hotel made all the more enjoyable due to the warm and personalised welcome. The host explained the history of the hotel and showed us Charles Dickens room with original bed frame. Tasty full English breakfast in El Sol the following day.Rooms: 5/5
