Really pleasantly surprised. I booked the Strathearn without much thought as I was attending a funeral in Kirkcaldy and just needed a simple bed for the night at a good price, and £69 for a 3-star hotel with breakfast included felt very fair. How the hotel only has three stars I do not know (well I do, I asked the staff and the hotel has only recently reopened from a refurbishment and hasn't bee reclassified yet!) The public areas were lovely, quite old-fashioned but immaculately maintained, and beautifully decorated for Christmas with a huge tree and Nutcracker-themed decorations throughout. My room was very large and clean with a good tea & coffee making station, a small but spotless bathroom, a good shower and essential amenities (shower gel etc) and a very generous selection of different sizes of soft, fluffy towels. The bed was one of the most comfortable I've ever slept in! I had a superb night's sleep helped by good blackout curtains, and the included Full Scottish breakfast was fantastic, including some of the best black pudding I've ever eaten. Afterwards I enjoyed a coastal walk around the lovely large park across the road. Service from all staff at all times was courteous, warm, and of the nothing-too-much-trouble variety. I'd highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the area.

We stayed Sat 17 Mar 2018. Said to reception that we had no hot water. Laddie good & "said to old give it 10 mins" , 30 mins later still no hot water. "" blew out as heating water & already serviced". To me, no excuse, especially when other guests had complained. Rooms cold but staff very pleasant, polite and nice in dining room. Bedrooms need more lighting as VERY dark. Too dark for putting on makeup. Even to have a wee light to move about room would be useful. We put shower heating up full & bedroom up full, but room still cold. Appreciate old hotel, but this should be accounted for with heating. Disappointed.

While our food was fairly tasty. I was very disappointed by the portion size of our chilli. Two of our party had this and we were finished our meal at least 10 mins before the rest. There was no side salad, tortilla, cheese, sour cream, nachos......nothing! And at £9 , it was DEF not good value. I did query the paltry portion size and our lovely waitress offered us a free sweet. We chose the apple crumble. Again a tiny portion for £5/6!! - and not nearly as good as mine at home. Won't be rushing back.

Poped in for some lunch with family. Staff where very welcoming and allowed us to sit anywhere we fancied in the restaurant. There was a good selection of food on the menu with something for everyone. The portion size was very generous and to a good quality. I would recommend the hotel.
