We have been here twice now in our 7m motorhome and the value for money is superb. The food is your traditional fayre but we enjoyed our small mixed grills one night and the two for £11.99 meal deal which in our case was small fish, chips and mushy peas & a hunters chicken, chips and garden peas. The latter suited our appetites but bigger eaters may want a starter or pudding. In terms of motor caravans etc, we found parking at the furthest end away from the road best for sleeping. There are no facilities outside pub hours so you need to be self sufficient. It is a requirement that you have food and a drink to offset free parking. This is a great stopover en route elsewhere or to catch the bus into Nottingham.
Fabulous. A warm welcome given. The staff are lovely. Food...beautiful. Prices are really good. The atmosphere in the is very friendly. I will definitely go back. My D.I.L had the steak and ale pie. It was like a desperate Dan size pie. The gammon was lovely. My granddaughters had meals from the kids menu. Perfect sized meals. Thank you everyone. X
It is my local pub. It is good place for some and food drink. I visit it very often. Have free parking.Food: 4/5
An amazing welcome , after travelling for 9 hours from Cornwall to Nottingham, in the rain. Very friendly & helpful. Treated with such kindness- outstanding service ! Lovely meal , good value , 80's music play list, cozy pub. Tina even gave our 2 therapy labs some left over sausages . Her colleague was very kind, too. Definitely recommend this stopover. Lovely Park & walks nearby.
We stopped here for the night with our motorhome after reading a few reviews, and they were all correct on the premises and hospitality great staff. The best part is the menu, they a variety of daily specials. We decided to go with 2 mains for £11.49 and they were a great choice, both meals were cooked to perfection. The best way to put a review is, if we were in the area would we come back and from us both it is a loud YES.
We visited at lunchtime on a Friday and found a table. The menus were not very clean and cutlery was missing from some tables. We retrieved cutlery from an empty table and ordered via the app, which was confusing, had kids drinks missing and different labels to the menu. Staff were very friendly, and drinks were brought quickly after ordering, but cleanliness was not the best: a member of staff put a. “Reserved” notice on the table next to ours without noticing that the table was dirty and had debris on it. Food was served soon after and staff were again friendly and attentive. The food, however, was hit and miss. The onion rings were nicely cooked, as were the sausages, the Mac and Cheese was very nice too. The steak was a bit iffy though and didn’t taste great, though it was cooked through precisely as ordered. I guess you can’t blame the chef for the cut of meat. The sizzler platter wasn’t very hot though, and no real sizzling was going on: mostly because of the huge mass of onions underneath the food. Too many to cook properly, they just cooled the sizzler down and sat there pooling in oil. All in all, not inedible but needs a little quality control.
Arrived on a Sunday evening and had 3 main meals and drinks. Service was friendly and fast, we all enjoyed our food. We could take our dog, who had cuddles from staff too! Great value for us as we also stayed for free overnight in our motorhome. Fantastic walks right next door to the Starting Gate, lovely wooded areas and lakes to walk round. Close enough to main roads to be easily accessible but quiet enough overnight to rest. If we're that way again we'll definitely be back!
Visited for a cheap and cheerful meal with the family and that’s exactly what we got! Food was delicious - especially the steaks and excellent value for money. The staff were also really friendly and happy to help. Will be returning.Food: 5/5
Great little boozer. Nicely located just off the country park. Buzzing atmosphere and the Friday playlist was a vibe. Fantastic deals and great value. Super friendly staff. Would definitely come again.
I would say "Never judge a book by it's cover" The first impression as you drive in is a little disappointing , it doesn't look the most attractive building and when we went the grass wasn't cut so it looked a little scruffy.. However... The inside is smart , clean and the staff very friendly and very efficient. The food was absolutely great value and the drinks were competitive. We would certainly be back especially as they are dog friendly. Parking: Plenty of space.
