This is an important historic church in Edinburgh situated along the Royal Mile. It was founded around 1124 and is dedicated to St. Giles, the Paton Saint of Lepers. Opening times are 10am to 6pm weekdays, 9am to 5pm Sat and 1pm to 5pm Sun. Entry is free, donations are appreciated.nnThe church features a Gothic exterior with a lovely facade with a crown-shaped steeple and a ornately carved niche main entrance. The interior includes main nave and side aisles with ribbed vault ceilings, decorative chapels, lovely stained glass windows, numerous memorials.nnThere is quite a bit to see inside that is of interest and  plenty of pews if you want to grab a seat and just look around or take rest. Allow yourself 15-20 minutes to walk through and enjoy what you are seeing at St. Giles.

St Giles’ Cathedral is one of Edinburgh’s most impressive historic landmarks. Located on the Royal Mile, it’s almost impossible to miss while exploring the city. Its distinctive crown-shaped spire stands out from the outside, while the interior offers a peaceful and welcoming atmosphere.nnTake some time to admire the beautiful stained-glass windows, intricate stonework, and historic details inside. Admission is free, although donations are welcome. It’s also a wonderful place to take a quiet break from the busy streets outside. Definitely worth visiting while exploring the Royal Mile.

Really beautiful cathedral right in the middle of Edinburgh. The inside is stunning, loads of little details to look at and the atmosphere feels very calm even when it’s busy outside on the Royal Mile. Definitely worth popping in, even if you’re just walking past. Proper piece of Edinburgh history and one of those places that looks even better in person.

This is a beautiful church in the heart of the Royal Mile in Edinburgh. We visited during August so there was a lot of Fringe activity outside. The church was a peaceful getaway from all the noise and a time to reflect. Entrance is free but donations in any denomination are accepted. I saw the doorkeeper accept digital donations.

Free entry but you have to pay a donation to enter- not a big deal, I am here to see all the sights! I paid £10 for the both of us.nnThe cathedral was so pretty, with lots of rooms to explore. Someone was playing the organ when we entered so that was nice to hear. Pretty busy for an afternoon visit, there was a line to get in but I think it was because of paying the donation.
