We enjoyed our stay here. The staff were lovely, especially the lady who was on the front desk on the morning of Friday the 4th sorry we did not get her name. Very friendly, helpful, and gave us a great restaurant recommendation. The room was a little dated but comfortable with the exception of the really low beam in the bathroom that we whacked our heads on. The cooked breakfast was a bit on the small side and nothing special, but satisfying enough. The central location is really convenient, but the pub across the road was quite loud on Friday night, so not ideal if you're a light sleeper. Would recommend overall
The hotel is in a prime location within the high street of Thame. Plenty of shops, bars and restaurants in walking distance. The rooms and corridors would benefit from a paint. Very rough round the edges upon a closer look. Rooms are dated but confitable. The shower in the room was terrible. Breakfast was okay. I ordered a cooked breakfast which was a little on the small side but tasted fine. Full array of continental options. I would stay again, only for the location though.
Negative 100 stars— Absolutely Appalling: Filthy, Unsafe & Disgraceful Treatment of GuestsnnThis was one of the worst hotel experiences I have ever had, and my concerns go far beyond ordinary bad service.nnFirst, I had serious concerns about FIRE SAFETY during our stay. When people are paying to sleep in a hotel, basic fire safety should be absolutely non-negotiable. What we observed left us extremely uncomfortable about the safety of the property in the event of an emergency.nnThe cleanliness of our room was equally appalling. We examined areas of the room with a black light and could see numerous suspicious biological-looking stains that were not visible under normal lighting. We also found hair, including what appeared to be pubic hair. It made us seriously question whether the room had been properly cleaned or sanitised between guests. This wasn’t a little dust behind the furniture. It was revolting.nnBut perhaps the most disturbing thing I personally witnessed was the treatment of a mother staying at the hotel with her BABY.nnThe baby was crying, and the mother was actually made to leave the hotel because of the noise. A crying baby. Instead of showing basic compassion towards a woman trying to manage an upset infant, she was being kicked out.nnWhat made it even worse was watching her struggle with her belongings and luggage while dealing with her baby. Staff did not appear to help her with her luggage. Instead, I witnessed people laughing at her.nnI found that absolutely disgraceful.nnWhatever the hotel’s policies regarding noise may be, a crying infant is not a nightclub, a party or someone deliberately disturbing other guests. Watching a mother with a baby being put out and then laughed at while struggling with her belongings was genuinely upsetting.nnThere also seemed to be an extraordinary atmosphere around noise and enforcement generally. During our stay, it felt as though guests risked being removed if they became too noisy, with police involvement seemingly becoming part of the hotel’s approach to dealing with situations.nnHotels are supposed to provide three very basic things: a SAFE environment, a CLEAN room and PROFESSIONAL treatment of guests.nnIn my experience, this property failed spectacularly on all three.nnBetween the fire-safety concerns, the condition of the room, the stains and hair, and what I personally witnessed happening to that mother and her baby, I would NEVER choose to stay here again.nnManagement should be concentrating on hygiene, safety, housekeeping standards and treating human beings with a basic level of dignity.nnBased upon what I personally experienced and witnessed, I cannot recommend this hotel.
Great location on the main street of Thame. Everyone we interacted with was very friendly and helpful. We booked two rooms for two nights. Our rooms were on the top level of the Georgian part of the building, which is the oldest part. We expected the rooms to be old and quarky. Both rooms do need some quality investment in appearance and plumbing updates. More investment could go a long way in really improving the overall quality and experience of the hotel. If we travel to the area again, I would consider staying in one of their newer rooms because the people were helpful and friendly, but would avoid the older part of the hotel.
The hotel is tired and so were we. The pub down the road had music until 2.00am and the pub opposite was also open until 2.00am. People didn't go home until 3.30am. The supposed double glazing did not work. This sort of noise should not be allowed anywhere near houses and hotels. There was even a police car outside most of the night. But the breakfast was excellent.
