Very nice restaurant, they have done a great job at reviving the old Black Horse. The food was great and portions were very generous. However, my son has dietary needs and couldn't have majority of the items on the children's menu. It would be nice if they could introduce a lactose free/dairy free option for the kids especially as CMPA and lactose intolerance is on the rise. The kitchen staff advised us what they could offer him, so he had a naked burger with fries and salad. Unfortunately I don't feel it was very nice to serve a 3 year old a medium rare beefburger. He barely ate anything because his burger was red, so his dinner consisted of a home made dairy-free cupcake that I had made as part of my Mum's birthday cake. He had to come home and have a bowl of porridge before bed as he was so hungry. Some better thought needs to go into the kids menu.

We hadn't been to the Black Horse for quite a while and so decided to try it out for Sunday Lunch since its refit. This has successfully managed to retain the comfortable atmosphere whilst greatly improving the decor, layout and everything else. The menu had a good variety and the waiting staff were friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. The quality of service was first class. When our food arrived it was well cooked and tasty. Attention to detail was first class. Recommended.

I have visited The Black Horse three times now, twice to eat. The first time was excellent with good food and a good choice of beer. The second time the food was average and the service the same. The third time there was only one real ale and we didn't eat. General opinion of friends is the place is slipping.

Limited options for vegetarians on the bar menu which is OK but last time one was unavailable. We both had the veggie burger which was fine but the patty did turn to mush after starting to eat, perhaps breadcrumbs and frying would have helped hold it together? A nice onion ring would have topped it off, as would home made ketchup - take a leaf out of Treacles tea room or Whats Cooking for this! However considering this was a meal of only two parts the chips were truly awful. Not sure if they were frozen skinny chips but they were dry, hollow and unimpressive. I prefer hand cut chips or the cliche triple cooked with a burger as it adds more visual impact and taste which this meal lacked. I ordered Mojitos for the lady and she was thankful that at least somewhere in Thame sells cocktails. It was a good effort and the bar staff were clearly learning on the job. The first I'm told wasn't muddled long enough and the second lacked sugar but the shots in them were generous, so good effort at least. I'd say this is a 5/10 or solid 6/10 but as Raymond Blanc is putting his name to this I'd have expect a little more polish even for Saturday night bar food.
