A tranquil place that has amazing views. Steep incline to get to it but worth every step of the way. I am part of a motorcycle group called biking adventures and routes Northern Ireland where we look for stunning places here in NI/ Ireland to share to the world. If you have a motorcycle come and join us and let me know how you found us.
Starting point for a hike up Slemish. It has toilet facilities and an information hall. There are several picnic tables with a spectacular view on a clear day. There is a good path up to the base of the mountain, after that you are on your own to climb or scramble your way to the top. Quite a popular place on a good day.
Great views from the top of Slemish. The walk to the top is steep in places and involves a bit of a scramble for which you will need your hands. The car park has toilets and a small interpretive centre. Nearest shops, pubs and restaurants are in Broughshane which is about 4 or 5 miles away. It's worth visiting too because it regularly does well in best kept village competitions and always has plenty colourful flower displays on show.
Incredible country views and a perfect place to watch the sunset.
Plenty of spaces. Picnic tables. Toilets and a good starting point for your climb. Advisable to wear suitable walking boots.
Nice clean bathrooms with some information about the route up to the top, the history and local flora and fauna. Not a huge car park, but I had no bother getting a space on a nice weekend in June. There are half a dozen picnic tables too, which makes it a grand place for a morning or afternoon out. The recommended path to the top is not too difficult, but might be a stretch for the younger or older folk. You can take a much harder straight up route too, if you're a bit keen or mad.
What views over countryside The grey crows on hillside Magpies chittering Black birds flying high Quite blue the sky St pat herded sheep here Fought wolves No fear Rjs
Great spot to eat chips and burger. Easy access to Newcastle front and to paths up in toournes
First time up Slemish, pleasantly surprised, fantastic views
This is the place to go if you want literally to walk in the footsteps of St Patrick with a view of half of Northern Ireland.
