Sign of the Angel

About

Sign of the Angel is a 15th century coaching inn located in the heart of Lacock, this historic restaurant with rooms offers great food and homely rooms.

Story

Lacock is a special place and the Angel is a positive member of its community. We strive to enhance the village with a restaurant that pays homage to what it is - an historic British village that presents a relaxed sense of being to those experiencing it. Set within one of the oldest properties in Lacock, we offer high quality, locally produced food alongside traditional 'inn' accommodation for those that stay - all with exceptional service.

The 15th century inn and its 5 bedrooms have been sensitively updated to the standards of modern day living with beautiful interiors and a natural palette whilst restoring the essence and charm of the unique building, which boasts an exquisite panelled sitting room. We are not just providing a service to our guests, but a lifestyle, and we hope you will all feel at home in the inn which has celebrated generations of community spirit. The Angel is a public asset to our heritage and we believe that everyone should enjoy the building and its grounds so we aim to develop community aspects of the project in the longer term.

Relatively quick service for a pub on a busy Sunday lunch time! I experienced very friendly service from the staff and the only reason I can’t give 5 stars is because there is no wheelchair accessible bathroom and outside seating was sadly not available for those eating. Otherwise it was a really splendid experience, and entrance to the pub was wheelchair accessible. There is one small-ish step to the woman’s bathroom, suitable for me as an ambulatory wheelchair user but if you are visiting and have mobility trouble maybe send a trusted person in to scout out for you beforehand.nnThe food was absolutely marvellous, with a wide range of gluten free and vegetarian options and really delicious chips. I enjoyed the light bites menu, with calamari and battered fish. With the friendly village and beautiful surroundings, you could hardly wish for a better place to spend a lunch time, and I hope to be back soon!
A true gem tucked into the picturesque village of Lacock, Kiss of an Angel is an unforgettable experience housed in a delightfully crooked 15th-century English inn. The centuries-old architecture—with its slanted floors and time-warped ceilings—only deepens the charm, immersing you in a sense of history that feels both authentic and romantic.nnBut the real star here is the restaurant. Their lamb preparation is nothing short of world-class—easily one of the finest renditions I’ve ever had, balancing rustic depth with elegant execution. Local beers and ciders flow generously, perfectly complementing the menu. Grab another round for the garden or upper floor den.nnService is warm, professional, and attentive without being overbearing. As a bonus, my wife is vegetarian, and the plant-based dishes were genuinely excellent—creative, satisfying, and treated with the same care and intention as the meat-forward offerings. Not a single afterthought on the plate.nnCome for the charm, stay for the food, and leave already planning your next visit.
Ruby was wonderful and very helpful! She was waiting on quite a few tables so everything took a bit longer, but it was all well worth it. Excellent food, ambience & service. The fireplace was roaring so it got very hot, so wear layers!
Lovely location and surroundings. Pretty garden to relax in and enjoy a drink before dinner. Nice menu and friendly, attentive staff. Dog friendly too. The pie, pearl barley and fish dishes were all delicious but the sweet potato starter was a little disappointing in both look and taste. The truffle cheese croquettes were extremely small and only three in total. Disappointed as not a fair size starter in comparison to the squid? Enjoyable evening.
We went to the Sign of the Angel for afternoon tea and it was definitely one of my favorite experiences of our entire holiday. The garden had such a beautiful atmosphere and the food was without a doubt some of the most delicious cuisine I have ever tasted. Everything was excellent, the servers were kind and helpful and we spent nearly 2 hours enjoying the food and tea.
