First time visit since new ownership. Good food, pleasant, smiling and engaging young staff. Lovely big table for the six of us. Only negative was the music: a bit too raucous for a dining experience but probably good for the other side of the bar.

Had lunch, service was great, food fantastic especially dessert. Lots of vegetarian options. Pricey but worth it for a treat!

Good comfortable modern rooms with friendly staff. The food is good quality. We enjoyed a great breakfast and dinner. Also good selection of Ales.

The Methuen has a good reputation for food and has won some awards for it. We were certainly very happy with the pub food we had during our stay. The room was lovely and well equipped and i could see that other rooms were equally good. I visited the Methuen about 4 years ago when it was under different management, and the refurbishment since then has really transformed the venue. Breakfast was great. The service from the manager (Abi Vince) was excellent and very accommodating. I have only two areas of mild criticism. Some of the teenage girls working there were a little abrupt and were poorly presented. Also the white wine we were served was not cool as it hadn't been refrigerated. No cooler wine was available as all white wine was simply kept in an ice bucket and had not been in said bucket for long enough. The suggested solution we were offered was ice in the wine. Hmm. That aside we would absolutely stay there again and really enjoyed it.

charming gastro pub. lovely scallops.well coked and served by friendly staff. I look forward to my next visit.
