My friends in Sunderland hosted a Sunday lunch for my wife and I when we came up for a weekend visit from London. It was a unique experience just to eat in a 300 year old building that had a rich history of the part it played for the shipbuilding and related industry on the River Wear that Sunderland was once globally famous for. The service was excellent. The traditional Sunday lunch was roast beef and Yorkshire pudding. The serving was huge and generous. Probably large enough for 3 adults. I had mushroom soup to start with. It was very well home made.
Love this family pub on the north Riverside. Out of the way, small car park but plenty of street parking. Always busy. Amazing food at amazing prices. Love the Sunday lunches - huge portions I have also been through the week for the main menu. The service is friendly, polite and helpful to give to give recommendations. I never feel rushed even on a busy Sunday.
Staying local and was told about this place, we would never have found it to be honest. Very welcoming local pub, food was to die for, reasonable prices and with the log burner going didn't want to leave. If your nearby search for this place it's well worth it
Food was class and the service was excellent, highly recommend and we will be back, definitely find of the week and it's only Monday
Booked for Sunday lunch..it was absolutely fab, haven't been here for a long time but still a lovley place to have a drink and food..
Booked Friday lunch for 6 people, didn't start well , table wasn't ready for us even though they weren't busy, starters varied some were OK others were just warm & we had to ask for cutlery. Main meals were very disappointing, overcooked, chips had been cooked in old oil/fat. No staff asked how our meals were while we were eating. Won't be back, don't know how anyone can give this place a good review.
Beautiful food with a great menu huge portions. Staff are lovely, very good value for money. Loved it here will be back.
Been here several times and always nice but tonight was really disappointing. Staff were totally not interested in speaking to us or removing our plates. Didn’t bother with a dessert and the atmosphere was so miserable. Only us 2 in pub part. Restaurant no busy so there was no excuse. Didn’t even care when I complained. Just said sorry you feel like that with a matter of fact attitude. Place has gone totally downhill and I can understand why it was empty which was a bit of a shock. What a shame two useless people can spoilt a good pub.
This has been one of my best pubs but as of today it was disgraceful. If you are going to leave customers sitting waiting when pub is empty no wonder you are not getting any one in . Staff are miserable, unpleasant and more interested in talking to men sat at bar than removing our finished food . Had to go to bar to pay and left without desert . Think you need staff training
Went today for lunch. We were greeted by welcoming staff. Ordered fish and chips with mushy peas, lasagna with garlic ciabatta, coleslaw and salad and a senior citizen chicken curry with rice and chips. Everything was hot, well made and tasted lovely. Very happy to recommend.
