Shendish Manor has come a long way in the last 10 years. I’ve played a lot of golf at the club and have always enjoyed it. The course isn’t the longest but it’s well looked after with some interesting features. It’s not championship quality but it won’t disappoint most golfers. I also attended a wedding reception at the the Manor recently and was taken back by the character of the place. This is a lovely venue that has something for everyone.

Lovely venue and beautiful room- too bad these are the only good things about it. Stayed here for a wedding that my partner was bridesmaid for, who arrived the evening before to set up tables (as was mentioned and agreed with the staff), only to find that no tables had been set up at all despite ample warning. Not the best of starts. Next morning comes and I arrive and check us in. Two members of staff were answering questions for one customer (why this needed two members of staff I have no idea), when after 5 minutes of me waiting patiently one staff member trailed off from the other, not to check me in but to do what I can only describe as: "tidy up her workspace" for the next 3 minutes, all the while still stood there patiently awaiting service. Finally, after tidying, I was checked in. The staff members communication skills were poor at best, saying that I needed to pay for "extras" when I had paid in full beforehand and did not have any extras. I eventually grasped from them that this was a deposit on the room and confirm the card details, so obliged. The room was fantastic and faultless. Dropped bags off, went to the wedding reception area, sat down and was served food. Food was excellent, and service was quick at the breakfast. The evening began and I went to the bar for a drink. Whilst I did not expect service to be quick at the bar, I certainly did not expect the bar staff to be carrying out other tasks instead of serving customers. I was, again, at the bar for 5 minutes whilst the barman tidied away and dried glasses. By this time, I am starting to think I had a sign on my head that said: "don't worry, I can wait". Even upon being asked for my order, the barman then continued tidying away glasses, rather than prepare the drink. Rude if not disappointing. Finally the night came to an end and we went to our room, we didn't sleep well but (credit where credits due) this was because of an unruly wedding party elsewhere in the venue (the staff asked them to be quiet after we called reception). 06:30am, after having only slept for 3 hours, we were awoken by the cleaner coming into our room. This resulted in us putting in a formal complaint. (Although I take full responsibility for this) I stupidly left my phone charger in the room. I called the hotel several times over several days to ask if they had it, each and every time to be told: "let me call you back in 5-15 minutes whilst I check with housekeeping", only to never be called back. In the end, I needed to call during housekeeping hours and stay on the phone whilst they checked. All in all and in short, very poor customer service from the staff. When they eventually found it, i was told that they wouldn't be able to post it, despite me offering to pay for postage, and would have to collect it myself. No alternatives suggested. After speaking with the manager (Vicky) regarding our stay there, we were offered 20% off our stay and a complimentary afternoon tea. However, we live far away from the venue so felt that with paying for travel there and back again, only for an afternoon tea, was not financially viable. It was at this point we were hoping to discuss alternatives with the manager but discussions broke down. For these reasons, we stated we would be unable to recommend staying at Shendish Manor to our friends and family. Before we even consider staying at the hotel again, we would need to be assured that considerable change and improvement be made to the customer service provided by the staff who work here. Until then, we can only give an honest review.

Nice hotel but no hot water. They should have told me that they had issues. They had known about if from the previous night as some of our party had arrived a day earlier. I don't mind problems but if you know you should tell the customers. So my low rating is based around the fact that the customer is not seen as important enough to be informed about a key element of the stay.

Ideal for Warner Bros Studios and the Harry Potter Studio Tour. Good hotel. Excellent evening meal with attentive, smiling staff. Thought the bedroom (No44) whilst spacious, could do with a refresh. Chipped wood on the wardrobe doesn't look great in a four-star hotel, and the bathroom needed updating - but the room was clean. Would definitely stay again
