Discover an incomparable world of opulence and fine dining in Derby’s oldest and newest restaurant. Derby’s best loved Indian restaurant, established for over 30 years on Midland Road, has moved but a few doors away, but what a transformation!

To enter the new Shalimar Gold restaurant is a revelation. You will find a sumptuous interior, impeccable service, fabulous food, and the warmest welcome in Derby. Discover intriguing artworks, and even poetry themed on the ‘Romance of Shalimar’ amidst luxurious bespoke furniture and soft lighting, set out in a subtle arrangement of intimate spaces.

One of the first things a diner will notice is this great attention to detail, not only in the overall design, but in the beautifully laid tables, the faultless service, the dark evening dress of the staff, and even the white gloves worn when handling the silver! Well worth a try! We have been coming for over a year now. We travel all the way from Sheffield & tend to book a hotel or come when we have business nearby. The food has always tasted very fresh. We love how the lamb has a soft fresh taste too. The service is great! From the first time we come there has been great conversation & great recommendations to try new curries. Very very clean place & they go above and beyond for a comfortable meal/experience.
First time coming here tonight to celebrate a family members birthday. Place is decorated lovely, such a lovely atmosphere. Staff we're amazing. Soon as you step in there's a lovely warm welcome, offered to take coats and hang them up. Pulling out chairs for us to sit on. They are just lovely and polite. Great drinks menu selection. The food was amazing! It tasted so good and presentation was lovely too. We will definitely be going there again. Thank you all the staff for a lovely evening and for the chefs in the kitchen for the amazing meal. Parking: They do have a small parking bay at the back of their restaurant but doesn't hold many cars sadly but there is pay and display parking all round which is free after 6pm on a weekday Kid-friendliness: They were lovely in their interaction with the kids that was with us. They even have a lovely kids menu, main and rice for less then £10
Absolutely fantastic food in a lovely restaurant with wonderful staff. It's pricey, but you're getting what you pay for! Jimmy did an exceptional job in making us welcome as well as checking up on us throughout our stay.Food: 5/5
We were invited to try the October special offer to celebrate 40 years of Shalimar Gold. We had poppadoms and pickles to start which were tasty. Hot chilli fish and vegetable platter starters. Wow they were HUGE. The vegetable starter had a large samosa, large onion bhaji, paneer and a veg roll with salad and sauces. Highly recommend. The hot chilli fish was good and was also a huge starter. Mains we had mangla machli curry white fish and lamb Desi. The lamb Desi was delicious! Had a kick to it. The rice and naans were fluffy. Gulab jamun was hot and delicious. Extra syrupy and the pistachio ice cream went well with it. Service was EXCELLENT. They also have a little robot that brings the food to the table. Cute. You can pick up cold curry’s from the fridge in the restaurant to take home and re heat too. Fab idea. Little parking lot out the back or paid for on street parking available.
Disappointed having a takeaway after dining in several times. Chips undercooked. Biryani tasted like warmed up old chicken with plain rice Nan Doughey and cold, Bag damaged on delivery.
Amazing as Always! Amazing food and really superb service. I am very impressed. Paul and the team did a super job looking after us. Super curry sauces and meat so tender and well cooked. Also spices balanced and nan light and fully fluffy. I stopped eating curry out as most places in the area are average. This is a first rate place. Well done and thanks, you earned a repeat customer! Back today and still amazing. Came back today, amazing! Back again today, always amazing. I love a proper curry and these are always spot on.
On my first visit to Shalimar Gold I found a pleasant welcome, very helpful and friendly staff who couldn't do enough for you. The meal was first class even extra special when a robot bought the meal to our table. It was a birthday treat from my son Paul and daughter-in-law Emma. My evening was made extra special when they all gathered round and sang happy birthday complete with a cake and candle. Even the robot sang. So a very big thank you to you all for a lovely evening. Parking: Like most places in Derby these days very few places to park. There is a small car park but it was full.
Excellent service from the moment you enter to the moment you leave, friendly attentive and warm. The food was full of flavour with well judged portions, the current celebration menu that marks their 40th anniversary is great value for money. The additional 'robot' waiter made us smile and is a definite talking point. Will recommend and visit again.
I had booked an evening table for my daughter's birthday and I wanted two large balloons to be placed above the table, and to have the cake brought out after the meals. Jimmy was really helpful and assured me that he'd take care of everything, and I should not stress; he said he’ll keep the cake in the fridge and bring it out only when I indicated to him. When I and the family arrived, a staff member greeted us politely and gave us a warm welcome and showed us to our table. The venue was very pleasant and clean; we all felt very relaxed. All the staff were smartly dressed, spoke very politely and made us feel special. The service throughout was service with smiles all around! Even though I'm not a hot & spicy food fan, the menu had so much choice, for vegetarians and different meat lovers, that I was able to choose a good starter and a main. My only niggle was that there was a limited choice of beers, especially alcohol-free ones, but that was not a big problem, it’s good to try different things. Throughout the evening, the staff, especially Shahzad Jimmy’s son were very attentive though not so much as to make us feel uncomfortable. They were friendly and pleasant. At the end, when I discretely let them know, Jimmy, Shahzad and another staff brought the cake out, and sang happy birthday to my daughter - she was pleasantly surprised. The venue was great but the restaurant could do with a bigger car park, although after 6pm street parking is available. Other than this, I was amazed how clean and fresh the inside was, even the toilets were immaculately clean! If we had to highlight just one thing from our experience, it would be how friendly, helpful, polite yet professional the staff were. I would say, this is the best restaurant in Derby. Vegetarian options: Indian-oriented dishes containing a mixture of herbs & spices and different vegetables.
