Welcome to the Lakes. This is the beginning of the ultimate, most exhilarating hike up to Scafell Pike, or some of the her sister summits, The Corridor Route. Parking is Free alongside the road, but limited, so arrive early. There is additional parking at the farm. The trail is quite obvious, and well laid as it winds it's way up through the valley. The most notably technical section is a short scramble under the crags of Great End however it's not even worthy of a grade 1. The corridor route feels more natural and serene compared to the busy wasdale head route. Please ensure you have your hiking route planned out before you arrive, and of course, ENJOY.
Perfect place to park for walks towards Great Gable and the Scafell massife from the Borrowdale side. In season and at weekends you need to be there early as there is only the road-side, spaces are limited and fill up quickly.
£5 a day and hundreds of cars can park there. If you want to park for free then park just before you get to the car park, on the sides of the road Scaffel pike corridor route and Great Gable can both be reached from this starting point
Absolutely outstanding place to be. Certainly one of my most best loved valleys in the lakes. This walk was from Seathwaite farm to Bow fell, via esk pike. Lots of little fairy pools along the river to swim on a nice hot day, so if your that way inclined, which I certainly am, then take some swim kit and a towel. As your walking up through the valley you will see the fairy pools there pretty easy to spot and roughly a couple of miles up from the parking area. The parking is limited so be there early and please help the farmers by keeping the access gates clear, there is a working farm at the end of this road so please be mindful. Awesome route up to various mountains for you to take your pick of. This particular route for me was for bow fell, which was spectacular. If it had of been warmer I would of been skinny dipping in the pools. Awesome non the less. The path all along the way is a good path for a mountain. The national Trust have invested a lot of money into it so its pretty clear all the way. Enjoy your walk.. and stay safe with the right equipment.. no your fitness levels and abilities as a walker.
Amazing place to start your walk up to Scafell Pike. Took about three hours for us to reach the summit for us from here. You can spot couple of waterfalls on the right side along the path before starting to ascend. Arrive early as the parking spots get filled quite quickly.
A huge filed for parking. There are toilets. I think there is a honesty box for paying for parking but when I got there there was a farmer who collected money £5.
Seathwaite Farm is great for fabulous walks all the way to SCA FELL Pike. So parking correctly is important. I have parked here for the last 25 years and parked very close to the farm and when coming back to the car the traffic is stretched all the way back to the main road.
This was the best way up to scafell pike. It was the hardest but very rewarding with outstanding views and scenery.
Always a nice little spot to set off from for scafell pike. Scenery is perfect
Really appreciate that this car park even exists and it's a voluntary contribution for whatever payments you want to make by dropping coins into the box. Very large area that's a field of grass. Some people set up tents there for wild camping. There are basic toilets with cold water only but it's the path that's most popular for the trekking towards Scafel pike and other peaks. Does the job. UPDATE. Went again on Sunday 5th may 2018. Car park was no longer available to anyone except for camping. Not sure if it was only for bank holiday weekend.
