We are not dog owners but have been in the past. Strong Smell of your dog urine in our room. we had a family suite with a double room and a twin room. The smell was in the twin room just through the door. The door and door casing was scratched which look like a dog had been trying to get out to relieve itself. and it also smelled on the other side of the door in the hallway. after a few emails back and forth to the general manager of the Hotel, I did not get any joy. No apology. He said that we were lying about the smell and that there was not any smell. We won’t be staying there again. Walkability: In the centre of Keswick
Located in the middle of Keswick town, me and my partner have been coming to The Skiddaw Hotel for over 10 years. It's a great place to stop off for either a drink or meal. The conservatory is dog friendly and the service is quick. However, they do not accept cash here so you will need to pay via card. We never book and always seem to get a table however I would recommend doing so for larger groups.
Not the first time visiting, both times not great. First time, ordered a simple beer, gin and tonic, seated outside, had to chase up the order after waiting 25 minutes. For context it looked as though there were 20 covers. Second time for dinner ordered food, Sirloin Steak for £34 and upon being asked, requested medium rare. I received a flat steak served in a bowl oddly, with around five small mushrooms and four tomatoes, and a few onion rings. Not worth the price. After finishing the meal, went to pay the bill, nobody behind the bar, nobody at the hotel reception, and although a customer said a staff member may be in the room next to the bar, I poked my head in and hollered, no response. After waiting, a member of staff arrived and I explained I had been waiting a while and was met with confusion, despite me acknowledging and understanding they may be short staffed, this was refuted. For context, there appeared to be 4 covers at the time we were there. Unfortunately will not be visiting, despite the great location.
Great hotel! Really happy with everything at the Skiddaw after just enjoying a 2 night stay. All the staff were lovely, the room was great, the food was very nice, there are lots of bar tables for a drink in the evening. Top tip - park in the big car park behind the hotel. Go into the hotel reception and they'll create a digital parking pass for you and it will cost only £5 for 24 hours noon to noon. A brilliant deal. Rooms: Lovely room, not large but perfectv for us. Hospitality tray, robes and a TV with lots of channels. Nearby activities: Pencil museum 5 minute walk, olde world theatre, 5 minute walk, shopping on the doorstep, Saturday Market outside they set up from 5.30am - make sure the windows are shut!
So loved the service of the wait staff and the quality of meals. We were amazed at the take on their beef bourguignon! The greens were perfectly cooked and popped in your mouth. Then to top it off, the meat was sooo tender encased in the suet! Definitely recommend.Service: 5/5
Food awful, tough beef, bland bouillabaisse. With such a high price point we were expecting quality. Unfortunately not the case. We have never sent food back until tonight. It was just too awful to eat. On a positive note the staff were kind and understanding as we are typically British and hate complaining. So sad as we were looking forward to it. We went elsewhere. Staff very friendly and cappuccino was nice, but a little on the cool side for me. Overall, a nice place to stay and to eat. Dogs are allowed in the conservatory as well x
Being refurbished so rooms pretty fresh and spotless.Have to park behind hotel at a cost.Had a breakfast which was pretty good with a wide selection of options very enjoyable. Bar in evening well they lost fifty pounds because they couldn't do an expresso martin at ten PM as the coffee machine had been turned off! Which was a shame as the girls that ran the bar in the afternoon were delightful. Nearby activities: A good hotel in centre of Keswick
We ate at the Conservatory & Bar. Didn't stay at the hotel. We had a lovely table by the window to people and dog watch. Got the Hiker's Board which was fun. Some things were good...some things not so good...fun to try them all. Had a lovely time!Location: 5/5
Special thanks to this hotel as I lie awake at 3.15am, woken by the continuing racket from their deliveries 20mins and counting. No doubt the whole of Main St is enduring the same.
