We have just collected our beloved old 3 series that had a run in with a lorry some months ago. Not huge damage, but it was being dealt with by the other drivers insurance so went ahead and booked in with Sam and his team. So glad we decided to go with Sam Harris Automotive. They have done a beautiful job at repairing the damage to our vehicle and even went beyond the quoted works to repair and spray the whole rear bumper instead of just the damaged OS quarter - at no extra cost! We had the headlights restored and they came up so clean and bright. The team were very professional, helpful, respectful and great communication from start to finish! Very happy customers!!! Incredible service! Warning lights came on 10 minutes before the tunnel exit, so carried on to this garage. The service was super efficient and most importantly the staff is friendly and fixed our problem from diagnosis to completion in an hour and a half. Even given a lift to go and get a coffee in the high street whilst we waited. Cannot thank this team enough.
Where to start with Sam Harris Automotive... I had my Audi TTRS booked in for some diagnostics work for an oil leak, coolant leak and a droning noise on the Thursday, however due to work commitments I could only drop it off on the Wednesday morning. By Wednesday afternoon I had a text explaining in great detail all of the issues found A day early!. By Thursday they had managed to not only source all parts required but also get the majority of them fitted. Come Friday I had yet another highly detailed text including photos of all issues found and specified all the work which had been carried out. I collected the car Friday afternoon and it has been absolutely spot on. I cannot recommend the team at Sam Harris enough and will definitely be returning if anymore issues arise!
My poorly Mercedes had DPF issues but couldn’t be fixed by my usual garage, or other alternatives, who told me to expect a costly repair bill. Sam Harris Automotive was recommended so booked it in. I have been impressed with all aspects of my experience with Harris Automotive, from booking to updates given on diagnostics and progress throughout repair, including face to face update with Sam when collecting my now fit and healthy Merc, with an additional bonus of cost being a fraction of what I had been quoted elsewhere. I cannot begin to explain how appreciative I am of this garage! I had issues with my turbos on my bmw 535D, after using 2 normal street garages and a specialist I began to lose faith until I was recommended Sam Harris automotive! Their level of communication and diagnostics is second to none! Not only did they fix my car they also sent me pictures with explanations and updates of the repair, also advising me of possible upcoming issues that may come. I WILL NOT be using any other garage, if you want a trusted garage that actually care about fixing your car and not just taking all your money then honestly look no further! Sam, Emma, Alex and the whole team are amazing!
I had my rear side of my audi in for some body work, it was a large dent. I had to book in a few months in advanced as Sam and his team are busy and its obvious why. My car looks brand new the work and price was excellent. I highly recommend, my family friends recommended so it was a personal referral which I trusted. Honestly I traveled from Berkshire as they are this good.
Clutch went on my Mk7 VW GTi Golf and instead of taking it to my usual garage, approx’ 8 miles away, I chose to limp it to this local “highly recommended” garage, where I also requested if a lack of heating problem could be looked at while they were sorting out the clutch. Received a call from Sam stating that the clutch was all sorted and it didn’t require a fly wheel that was the good news! Then, Sam reeled off a number of issues with my heating system, saying that the thermostat was faulty, that one of the pipes was full of sludge, and that the radiator pipes were hard, saying that they had replaced the thermostat, water pump and secondary water pump, that there was hot air flowing through on one side and that potentially it would need a new heating matrix. Also, while they were carrying out their investigations on the heating system, they carried out a “sniff” test and said unfortunately it had detected exhaust fuel omissions in the coolant further explaining that the “head gasket had gone in some capacity” and quoted the potential costs to investigate this further to try to confirm how much damage had been done to the head gasket. I was also told the temperature of the engine was recording at 120oC, and when I tried to explain the temperature gauge on the dash had never gone passed 90oC I was told that was not a true reflection of the engine temperature so what’s the point of having a temperature gauge on the dash then?! Sam continued to offer a few solutions for the status of my car: - that they continue to do the work, advising it would cost a fair whack and the bill was already high or, I could collect my car and consider part exchanging it as it was. I would like to add, the 120oC then changed to 112oC finally finishing at 108oC-110oC when my husband accompanied me to the garage. I fully admit, I am ignorant to car engines, particularly modern computerised systems, and I was struggling to fathom how my fully serviced car with only 43k miles on the clock could go so drastically wrong. Fortunately, my husband has a lot of knowledge surrounding head gaskets and being trained to whiff out a fart in a perfume factory he smelt something unsavoury – so we decided to collect my car. After fully discussing what Sam had to say to both of us and potentially parting with even more money as in ££££s! we took the initiative to get a further opinion before committing to anything as something just didn’t seem/feel right with what had been said. We spoke to 3 separate garages, all of various expertise, explaining what had happened so far with the clutch and heating and ALL 3 said “What are they on about? Someone isn’t after your car are they?!” Quite a shocking response especially as Sam Harris had been highly recommended to me. So, I chose to take my car to my usual garage of over 15 years, paid for a “sniff” test and a diagnostic check. On diagnostics, after a run, the temperature was reading at 85oC – 91oC on live data the same reflected on the dash temperature gauge. The “sniff” test result was negative and they had let the engine run for some time. As for the pipes being hard apparently, this was because, the system was air locked, and using their diagnostic machine it was possible to do an automatic air bleed of the heating system, the result - no more hard pipes and the heater working normally on both sides again. Also, after paying a lot of money already to this garage, the clutch was still slightly sticking, possibly due to a bit of the air left in the system, this has now been sorted. Sadly, due to the feed-back we received from independent Garages, the seed of doubt has been planted, and I have been made to feel very vulnerable so I won’t be taking my car back here or recommending this garage to anyone I know with or without a VW. Really not sure what went on here, as the staff seemed plausible enough – caution to the wind peoples. On the plus, the clutch works well and the heating too now it’s been bled properly!
We were warmly helped by the people at Sam Harris in our time of need. We're in a pickle having to get back to Europe with a blown headlight. While we struggled with all the right spaces, our saviours made us look like fools. Making it a quick fix! We safely found our way home in the dark thanks to this garage!
I popped my car in to have body work done. Sam did a very good quick temporary repair and arranged to get me a quote for the work to be done. Sam and Richard were exceptionally helpful and knowledgable in assisting me with the purchase of a used car from them. After an initial discussion regarding our car needs, they were able to offer me great advice and offer their suggestions which led to me buying a car. During the sales process we identified a small mechanical item needing repair which they did happily without question. I would honestly recommend them and hope to buy another car from them in the future.
