Had a lovely afternoon at the Mechanical Instrument Christmas Special at the theatre.
A hidden gem, informative and entertaining.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
It was an enjoyable concert although I expected classical organ music like Bach's. So I enjoyed the very last music 'Amazing grace' the most. I wish there would have been more church music or classical music. The coffe provided tasted exceptionally good!Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Very special place. Not particularly impressive from the outside think warehouse but the magic lies within. I attended a Silent Film Concert, showing Messrs Chaplin, Keston, Laurel & Hardy, accompanied on piano by the excellent Keith Nichols. You are surrounded by organ history and memories gone by and there are both rare and familiar pieces. Organ Concerts are monthly, as well as other one-off and seasonal events run to preserve these wonderful pieces. I'll be back!
Amazing First time I've been to an Organ Concert where the organist played three different instruments; an unusual Rutt theatre organ, a Hammond, and everyone's favourite the Mighty Wurlitzer. Cameras are trained on the consoles and the images are projected onto a central screen which adds to the experience and shows the skill and dexterity needed to command one of these instruments. The venue is staffed by helpful and friendly volunteers, and interval refreshments are included in the price of admission. One of the player pianos a Steinway upright was demonstrated during the interval. I will back soon for one of their Sunday afternoon sessions when a range of mechanical instruments are demonstrated. This place is a gem. It should be treasured and supported.
Wonderful afternoon. Treated Mum to an event held here today..vintage afternoon tea & demonstration of the wonderful old Wurlitzers amongst others there. Hidden gem in St Albans. Well worth a visit
A nice day out. We went and heard to Sunday concert. There were many different automated "player" organs that had drums, cymbals, saxophones, accordians and other instruments, not just your usual pipe organisations. Most were highly decorated and the volunteers had wonderful stories about each of the different organs they set to play for us. I will come back again.
We attended one of the open Sunday afternoons. Very informative and entertaining. Volunteers were friendly and knowledgeable.
I've never been to this attraction I'm sure it's wounderful however its limited opening hours is it's principal flaw
Amazing place and super music. Several working organs rescued and restored and often played. Check visist details for times when organs are played.
