Very nice pub indeed. Great service and freshly prepared food. Good size portions with reasonable prices. Wheelchair accessible site, clean premises. Well done.
Lovely food, very reasonably priced but felt for the staff as they seem understaffed. Food took a long time to get served. Lovely decor and dog friendly areas around the bar. Met family there for a meal 8 of us, 3 dogs & a baby and would recommend!
This should be in your list for a solid pub meal in a historical building. As with many chain pubs, the food is pretty standard and tatses pretty good. The atmosphere here is pleasant, and the pub is well decorated and well kept. Staff are friendly and deserve a raise for the hard work they do, they need an extra person to serve. Service was slow, but the food came out fresh and our orders were correct. That is the most important thing. There is a good sized playpark for children which will entertain most for about 20 minutes or so whilst you wait for food. Overall it's good. Slow service aside, it's a good place to eat. Avoid the gammon, the portion size is small for the price. Everything else appears to be well sized. There is also a good children's menu with lots of choice. They cater to allergies and lifestyle choices such as vegan and vegetarian.
We've wanted to visit here for ages. Delicious food and lovely staff. Lovely clean pub and beer garden.
Without shadow or doubt one of the worst meals I’ve ever had. I ordered dipping steak with skin on rosemary fries- the fries came and were normal- we sent them back they came back with a single spring of rosemary on them. Wilted and gone off lambs lettuce and steak that would not be fit for a dog… the dipping sauces were all congealed bar the gravy which was essentially a watered down bisto. My daughters sausage and mash came out served with cold congealed beans and the mash was inedible. Husband had a burger that was passable. All in all huge waste of £45 I had a side of Mac and cheese and that was the only edible thing. Will not be returning
This Christmas Dinner was a surprise treat for me and it was so enjoyable... and there was no potato peeling, table clearing or dishwasher loading required. We were welcomed in and seated in a warm and cosy part of the beamed and beautiful restaurant where we enjoyed the Christmas decorations, pulled the crackers, put on our paper crowns and laughed with guests on nearby tables. Drinks were served, zero alcohol for me, the driver, then starters. We had Piri-Piri chicken skewers... they were very nice and just right as a first course. Then came the traditional turkey dinner with all the trimmings you'd need... plus a glass of Prosecco. After that, and the required rest, it was a huge meal, we had Christmas Pudding with Cranberries and cream. Coffee, etc would have been available but not for us as we were full to bursting point! The staff worked hard to make everyone happy and well fed and, despite the hard work of the challenge, they did it with good grace. I can't recommend enough a visit to the Rushbrooke Arms before and at Christmas time 2023. Thank you team, you did great.
This used to be a place I went to quite frequently, but when it changed hands a fair few years ago we got put off. It has since changed hands a couple more times I believe but we decided to dine their on our way home from Bury. The staff were helpful and the food was delicious and well priced. Highly recommend their burgers and bacon and cheese fries. Yum!
Visited the Rushbrooke on the way back to Colchester from shopping in Bury-St-Edmunds. Staff lovely, beer very well kept, the Abott was superb. The Steak & Ruddles Ale pie did not disappoint, my choice of mushy peas was brilliant I would say that, wouldn't I. I have no hesitation in recommending the Rushbrooke for beer or food.
I've been here a few times, and each time has been pleasant. The steaks have been nice and the salads have been fresh. The chips are a little bland and sometimes a bit cold, but that is usually because it's so busy. All in all, solid pub and a reliable choice
Excellent inside environment with friendly staff. My wife enjoyed her 'Cheesy Mac with Bacon'. However my Chicken Fajitas was massively over seasoned and far hotter than an average curry! As a result I dint eat much of it.
