We had home made beef steak and Ale pie with chips and peas. The pie was excellent. The meat was very tender and the puff pastry crisps and light and the chips were very crispy too. Very nice indeed. The service was very good. The pub itself looks a little tired and could maybe benefit from a bit of a refurbishment. We thought the pub lacked atmosphere but it was only a Tuesday evening. It may be different on a Friday or the weekend. Parking: Large car park at the back of the pub but it is very rough and ready.
Pleasantly surprised at this gem. Passed it on the road many times and always wanted to pop in. If this sounds like you, then definitely stop off for food. We had the lamb casserole and pie of the day. Nothing to moan about and we both enjoyed our mealsFood: 5/5
Last week we had my Dad's wake in the Cranham suite. It is a lovely venue I highly recommend it. Also the food was excellent. A reasonable price as well, it made my family happy as we could of been after loosing my fabulous Dad. Thank you to all the Royal William team.
Rudest waitress ever! Could not be called 'service'. We came for a pleasant lunch and a catch-up. The food was nice but the waitress was sooo rude, we couldn't believe it, never had one like her! She clearly had no time for being polite to her customers, no wonder there were only 6 of them. We were turfed off our first table as it was, apparently, reserved, but no-one came to use it or the other 'reserved' table. I'm not surprised. Go somewhere else unless you like being scowled and tutted at, it's a bad experience!
having booked they were not ready when we arrived. we were large group and had two round tables. floor uneven and being four legs table was unsteady. had the pie of the day but looked like a Pasty. not enough filling, too much pastry.Food: 3/5
Last 4 visits, I have been left feeling as though we were inconveniencing them by being there. Having previously rated The Royal William as 4 stars I'm now forced to reduce this to a generous 1. The final straw was arriving at 21:05 following a 20km trail run south along the Cotswold Way only to be greeted with yet another miserable welcome. "We've cashed up at 9pm and will not serv you!". What type of public house is this! I cannot recommend wasting your evening aiming to visit this pub to anyone. If this was a one off, I could understand it, but consistent poor service from different staff members is inexcusable. For someone within the service industry you must realize that people will stop considering your establishment as a viable destination, if you operate like this. The location and premises are good, with plenty of off street parking and a nice patio area, and easy access to the beautiful countryside, but how this business is going to survive like this is a mystery. What a waste!
Do not go for the carvery.I was visiting family so my dad decided to treat us to Sunday lunch.. never again the beef was so over cooked it crumbled into pieces before it reached the plate as well as turned to powder almost when you put it in your mouth. The turkey was dry to. Veg Very ordinary not much of a selection potatoes not nice and the stuffing balls still had the stuffing mix inside which hadn’t absorb any of the water. Suck a shame as the pub was quite nice and I did enjoy my strawberry cider.
Excellent food coupled with a superb selection of real ales and a quite impressive wine selection. We really enjoyed our meals and found the Nook with a fire a very comfortable spot for after dinner. The food was reasonably priced and was brought promptly and cooked to perfection. Can't rate high enough.
Lovely pub and really nice people serving.! I was a little disappointed in my lunch of a burger, fairly basic compared to some offerings chips were magic.. My partner had sausage, mash and peas and again disappointing. All subjective but it did seem awash with gravy? Having said all this, the wine was nice and we were able to relax in a nice environment.l would certainly visit again and try some of the other selection off the menu and beers.
Two of us went for lunch. I had not been here for about 20 years & found it had not lost it's charm & wonderful welcome followed by tasty food. Well done.Food: 5/5
