Very rude staff and they close early at 2pm in August. I came in at 8am on Thursday. There was an old man working there, I forgot to get his name. I had to come here because my hostel never accepted my package. But the old man kept questioning and yelling at me on why the hostel never accepted my package. I don’t know why, I should be the one that’s frustrated, not him. Then he went on asking why I wasn’t there to receive my package if the hostel didn’t. I got my package at the end but the lecturing and interrogating for 10 minutes was uncalled for. Some people are giving positive reviews. I think it’s highly the luck of the draw on who happens to be working at the time. Try to avoid morning on Thursday’s.
Silly opening hours and very rude staff. Had an urgent parcel that I was unable to collect for 5 days due to the less an convenient opening hours that they operate their public counter with. Eventually managed to get time to come during opening hours, there was a small queue of 3 or so people in front of me. I watched as the male staff member stood behind the counter, and berated as well as make unnecessary unfounded aggressive comments to each one of them - despite them being nothing but courteous and polite to him. When my turn came, I quietly handed over my paper slip and said as little as possible - he must have run out of things to say as I managed to avoid relatively unscathed. It did amuse me that they had a sign on the wall saying “Please treat our staff with the respect you would expect to receive” All in all, a very frustrating and upsetting interaction. I shall be avoiding interaction with Royal Mail as much as possible after this, small wonder less and less people are choosing to use them.
I could copy and paste any of the 1 star review on here and parts would fit my issues... Arrived at the collection point to be told the item wasn't on his system... I have to point out he didn't type anything into his computer. He then tries to lecture me and get me to arrange redelivery through the app. I've never seen someone so unwilling to do their job or help someone. As has been said, no wonder people use other companies sometimes. I won't tarnish all post office workers with this brush, but this particular arm of their business is atrocious!!!
This review is solemnly about the unfriendly staff at this place. I already had a poorly experience with Royal Mail when my parcel never made it to my address but working in customer service myself, I would never treat staff badly bc I know they are usually not involved in the misery directly and don’t deserve to get a mean attitude. But this guy an older man with white hair and reading glasses, I forgot his name was beyond out of order. I told him that I never received a notification so I cannot show it to him but the tracking number and looked it up in my emails on the phone, and he overlooked me immediately and served the next customer barking that he will do the next request while “she is trying to find whatever the hell she’s trying to find” I was shocked by his tone, words, attitude and arrogance. He also misgendered me. His servicing was beyond bad and requires quite some overthinking. I strongly advise the management to have a word, too. This was a very uncomfortable situation for me.
Came here 1 hour away from my address to collect a parcel after I saw the redelivery I requested would only come on Saturday 3 days from now. The staff member was extremely rude, said he can't give me the package anymore because I requested redelivery even though the parcel is still in the building. He was extremely disrespectful overall, asking me what colour the card was and laughing at me telling me I should have been in at 11 AM on a workday if I didn't want all this.
Called up when I got a red slip through my door to check when I could pick up my parcel. The opening hours on Google are 8am-7pm most days. I called up head office to check and I was told I could pick up any time during the opening hours. I was dubious about this because of the multitude of bad reviews. I arrived around 5pm, walked through to the customer enquires and picked up my parcel from a very nice chap behind the counter with no issue. I think the bad reviews might be updated because I don’t see any issue at all.
UPDATE: Opening hours have reverted to being reasonably restrictive again. Pushed it a bit the other week with arriving close to closing and got the sort of experience the bad reviews seem to mention. At the end of the day, I felt really awful but I was still there before close + was having to rush because of the impending strike the following day. Certainly won't get that close again but didn't appreciate being told my profuse apologies weren't genuine multiple times when they very much were. ----------- This is the closest DO to me with decent opening hours as we're regularly dispatching business mail weekly and so far it's been great. Really feel like the majority of these reviews are pretty harsh given that the opening hours have updated now to being extremely lenient. There is an issue with RM opening times in general and it was rough during covid but at my old DO in Glasgow, the same thing happened in them suddenly extending the times which made things a whole lot easier. Not a bad word to say and the staff have been really pleasant each time I'm dropping stuff off despite it usually being a bunch of individual parcels which I know can be a hassle!
15 min to get through, can’t answer my query, will check with a supervisor, on hold for 5 min, then they cut off.
The long story short? I didn't hear door, Royal Mail in Edinburgh are pathetic, use a different courier. I will admit my fault that I didn't hear the door. I will however point out their faults. 1. not posting the "Sorry we missed you" slip through the letter box aka didn't do the most basic part of their job properly which I found on the stairs in my flat complex. 2. The slip said the parcel was ready to collect next working day "Back at your local office." but failed to tell me which office that would happen to be, there are many in my locale. 3. The slip was missing the parcel tracking number for me to be able to trace the parcel. Therefore I had to get in contact with the sender for them to send me the tracking number. 4. Despite point 2, when I did track the parcel on the website the parcel was actually in the Distribution Office over 4 miles away from me! Not my "local office". 5. I can't drive so I paid for the tram to get to the Distribution Office, on arrival I was politely informed by an RM worker who is the only saving grace in this whole debacle that the Distribution Office was only open in - the unsocial and ungodly - hours of 7am to 9am for collections. 6. When I went back home and arranged for the parcel to be delivered to my ACTUAL local post office I was informed that I would be charged further for this to be done. Royal Mail in Edinburgh need to up their customer service skills, the lady in the Distribution Office is the only positive in this whole issue. I will be requesting other couriers to deliver to me in the future.
Giving them 1 star because I can't rate them with 0. Their service is poor, useless and shambolic. No wonder people are resorting to other companies. I have been waiting at home for a redelivery twice and they don't even bother ringing the bell or the door. They just leave a note saying I wasn't home a lie, since I have been working from home all day and they disappear. When you complain, why even bother ordering another redeliver? What for? If they don't even ring and leave with your parcel. I guess it's easier making everybody go to their souless depot in the middle of nowhere so that they don't even have to do their job, which involves delivering stufd. Honestly, avoid at all costs
