The Royal Highland HotelnnI recently stayed at The Royal Highland Hotel, and unfortunately, my experience was far from what I had hoped for. The hotel has a distinctly dated appearance, which gives it an overall neglected vibe. It’s clear that some updates and renovations are needed to bring it back to its former glory.nnThe dining options were another disappointment. I found the food to be significantly overpriced for the quality and variety offered. While I understand that hotel dining can come with a premium, I expected more for the cost.nnAdditionally, the heating system in my room was quite disruptive. It made a loud banging noise throughout the night, which made it challenging to get any restful sleep. This was particularly frustrating, as a comfortable night’s sleep is one of the primary reasons for choosing a hotel stay.nnThe Royal Highland Hotel used to be a good choice for travelers, but it seems to have lost its appeal. I hope the management considers making some improvements to enhance the guest experience. Based on my recent stay, I cannot recommend this hotel at this time.
A very enjoyable stay. The reception is quite impressive when you first arrive with a grand staircase and is full of Highland character. The public areas also have some displays of contemporary art which is interesting. Breakfast is served in what looks like it was once a grand dining room or ball room with high ceilings and stained glass windows etc. My room on the third floor had a large bathroom, hot bath and a comfortable bed. There is a bit of noise from adjacent rooms and the corridor, but not enough to keep me awake.nLocation right in the city and next to the station. Breakfast a continental buffet was functional and fine.
We really enjoyed our stay in Inverness. The hotel is very grand and elegant. We very much enjoyed sitting in the bar by the beautiful staircase. I don’t mind the dated decor as it adds to the hotels Victorian charm. The hotel and rooms are very clean.nOur room and bathroom were huge with 2 queen sized beds and dogs are very welcome which is a huge plus. The beds were very comfortable and we all slept well.nThe only negative I sadly have is the operations manager. She doesn’t have very good social skills and comes across as quite rude at times, so we avoided the hotel restaurant after the first night.nThe cleaning ladies and other staff were friendly. The location is great and I would stay again.
TL;DR: The Royal Highland Hotel has a great location and historic charm, but the small single room 302 was overpriced given its issues with cleanliness, maintenance, and comfort.nnThe Royal Highland Hotel is a beautiful historic property located right next to the train station and just a couple of blocks from the bus station, making it incredibly convenient for travelers. The building itself is lovely, with a charming aesthetic and helpful, friendly staff.nnUnfortunately, my experience in the small single room 302 was disappointing for the price. While the room was quaint and nicely decorated, it had several issues that made my stay uncomfortable. The shower was not properly cleaned—a large ball of hair caused the drain to back up while I was using it. The bathroom also had mold growing on the ceiling and required the door to be kept closed to prevent steam from triggering the smoke detector.nnThe room had limited plugs two standard, one USB-A, and one USB-C and very weak heating. While a space heater was provided, using it made the already small space even more cramped. The bed lacked a top sheet and only had a heavy comforter, which caused breathing issues due to the room’s lack of airflow in the middle of the night.nnThe location and historic charm are great, but I can’t recommend the single room at this price point given the cleanliness, maintenance, and comfort issues. I didn’t dine at the restaurant, so I can’t comment on the food. Overall, I’d suggest exploring other options if staying in the area.
Good location right next to the station and city center and also a very fair price for 2 rooms. The rooms do look a bit old but they are fine for the price. Unfortunately there was an almost constant noise from the train engines which were still on during the night. They should definitely get double glazed windows which can close tightly to stop the noise from coming in.
