Royal Automobile Club

Story

The Royal Automobile Club is a British private club and is not to be confused with RAC, an automotive services company, which it formerly owned. It has two club houses: one in London at 89–91 Pall Mall, and the other in the countryside at Woodcote Park, Surrey, next to the City of London Freemen's School. Like many other gentlemen's clubs in London today, the Royal Automobile Club welcomes women as members.HistoryIt was founded on 10 August 1897 as the Automobile Club of Great Britain . The headquarters was originally in a block of flats at 4 Whitehall Court, moving to 119 Piccadilly in 1902.During 1902 the organisation, together with the recently formed Association of Motor Manufactures and Traders campaigned vigorously for the relaxation of speed limits claiming that the 14 mph speed limit imposed by the Locomotives on Highways Act 1896 was 'absurd' and was seldom observed. The organisations, with support from the Prime Minister Arthur Balfour, had considerable influence over the forthcoming Motor Car Act 1903 which originally proposed to remove all speed limits for cars while introducing the offence of driving recklessly. In the face of considerable opposition a speed limit of 20 mph was retained in addition to the creation of the offence of driving recklessly, dangerously or negligently.

Had afternoon tea here. The atmosphere is amazing. The service great. Classy and comfortable. Won't say it is the best afternoon tea ever but one of the best places for members and guests to have a great afternoon.
Invited for a wedding reception. Lovely huge spiralling building full of character and echos of so much history in the walls. Can't wait to go back another day :-
I think this is the most impressive club on Pall mall. Beautiful building and decor. Well maintained. Good atmosphere. There is always a classic car on display at the entrance that changes every 2 weeks. The club has a strict dress code. Jacket and smart shirt for men. No tie required any more. However, no sneakers allowed and they seem to class shoes like Allbirds as sneakers which I find a bit excessive.
Beautiful surroundings Great location Good venue l
An exquisite Club. Incredible Team. Richard welcomes you at the door with total professionalism and finesse. Wonderful atmosphere, dedicated team, everything is perfect. Looking forward to my next visit.
Posh and stylish venue that carries with it a sense of old school charm. In the hustle and bustle of London Pall Mall, is this quiet sanctuary with its own basement swimming pool! Great venue for events, but a fair bit of walking up and down to the cloakroom. The place definitely invokes memories of a bygone era. Nostalgic and probably a lot of history is hidden amongst its walls.
Impeccable service here at every part of the club. I am amazed with quality of their restaurants, long bar, club room, and drawing room areas. Exceptional foods and fabulous interiors design in every room here. The lockers and the heated pool are a bit old but the squash courts and gym are excellent. Their fine dining at the Great Gallery is not to be missed if you visit this club. Strict dress code to be adhered here.
A fine establishment on Pall Mall. Perfect for hosting formal events and evenings for fine dining. This club won’t disappoint.
Great place to eat. Very attentive and caring for people with food allergies . Food delicious
