Nice venue in an old London building, the interior has been made modern with still a rustic feel. Met at the door and taken down to have drinks in a candle lit room, after a few lovely drinks took a bit of time we were led upstairs for dinner, the food is really nice well thought out with great options for all the courses, all cooked really well with great taste and presentation. Nice chill out space to grab a drink with friends and a meal. Nice music and friendly staff, when I was there new staff so gave them the benefit of the doubt on timing etc. In a great central location easy access to tube and other London locations.
I've been a LIBRARY member for a little over a year now and I'm glad I decided to wait it out, because it's definitely gotten better and it looks like the team is dedicated to keep improving the service and offering. The Wi-Fi works great these days and the and I've really enjoyed the addition of the pizza oven. I recently checked out Dear Alice, the new speakeasy great cocktails, particularly the Old Fashioned and the revamped dinner menu at Saint Luke's Table. The staff was very friendly and attentive, and my party and I really loved every single thing we ate. I usually opt for quick bites when I visit the club, but I'll definitely be dining here again.
What a cool place! We recently had dinner at LIBRARY and got a quick tour of the whole club afterwards. The food was great and the club is beautifully decorated books everywhere, my kind of place!. Great vibe! I don’t usually have mixed drinks but had a lovely one here – because it was named after Roald Dahl. Extra shout out to our server, Jean Baptiste, for showing us around the club afterwards!
At the start of this month, I went to the library as despite being a private member’s club, you can still dine at their restaurant- St Luke’s. I automatically loved the theatrics of the restaurant with popular historic novels placed on the dining tables for reading, emphasising that the club is one big library. I was also informed that as a member of the club, you can check out any of the books in the Library. Upon arrival, Jean-Baptise greeted my friend and me, he was to be our waiter for the night. I quickly felt reassured, as Jean knew the menu very well and has worked in the food/drinks industry for some time. He aided in selecting our bottle of house wine, the 2016 Pinot Grigio, Graves Del Friuli, San Simone. I was right to go with Jean’s choice, as this wine is rich, sweet and refreshing, I would later find out that this wine would pair nicely with my chosen courses. I always did prefer Italian wine! He recommended the salmon and avocado maki rolls with Jalapeno mayo and soy sauce. This is the most popular starter amongst guests, dining at this restaurant; I was content with this choice as I adore Japanese and Asian inspired cuisine. The maki rolls are a little on the crispy side, but nevertheless still delicious, especially when dipped in the jalapeno mayo, which aids in flavouring the rolls with subtle spice. My guest is vegetarian, so she had the artichoke soup with cobnuts, truffle oil and served with a rustic roll. My friend allowed me to taste a bit of the artichoke soup and I would describe the soup as thick, creamy and filling. What I do appreciate at this restaurant is the variety of vegan/vegetarian starter options, that the library hosts. For my main, I chose the 25-day aged 8oz rib eye with Cornish leaves, which originally is paired with triple cooked chips. However, I opted for the Jersey mash potatoes instead, also adding a panache of winter veg. I chose to have my steak cooked medium-rare because, in my opinion, that is how a steak should be cooked. The steak was marinated and seasoned well, which could be tasted with every bite that I ate. The steak was soft and a little on the tender side, which I was glad about as I prefer it when my steak is a little chewy. Served with the jersey mash, which is creamy in texture and savoury in taste, and with a bit of mustard sauce, this was the perfect main. For my friend, she chose the vegan burger; roasted sweet potato with chickpea and burnt pepper sauce. My friend described the burger as tasty and a great combination and use of vegetables. I am glad she really enjoyed the burger, as often when we go for dinner, she is frequently limited for food choices, due to her vegetarian diet, so it was great that she had a selection of dishes to choose from. We shared our desserts as we were quite spoilt for choice; first to try was a Praline Éclair with salted caramel and second was the Winter berries Pavlova with Lime Curd. The Pavlova was just right, I was a bit apprehensive that the Pavlova would be quite hard, but the exterior was just right and the winter berries were sweet and rich in flavour. After dinner, we were given a tour of the club, as the Library offer space for meetings and launches for its members, which is great as you can have a meeting or private dining with discretion. After the tour, we headed down to the private member's main bar for cocktails. I chose the Roald Dahl, as I am a big Gin lover! My friend chose the Dino Buzzati. I love the fact the drinks are named after famous authors; this has a nice touch to the bar. The bar has a nice vibe with a live DJ, who was playing songs from the 90’s.
They just recently launched their restaurant St. Luke's Table with a new head chef and menu, and everything was delicious! I would highly recommend the scallops starter as they were cooked just right, and the venison was excellent as well. For dessert, I got the chocolate fondant with a peanut butter heart which had just enough peanut butter to add to the experience, but not so much that it felt overwhelming, and was also fortunate enough to share my wife's blueberry cheesecake which had a unique sort of homemade texture to it.
Good food and great staff. The drinks aren't cheap but the cocktails are great. Personally I could go without the live music which is a bit loud to be able to talk easily and in truth none of the acts I've seen have been particularly great. The smoking area feels like you're on a break at a call centre. Despite that, it's a great place with a good vibe.
Nice little private members club and hotel. It's less 'polished' than other private members clubs in London like Soho House and seems to be smaller. We visited for a gig, which attracted a large crowd. The performance space is quite small, and because the main room space is akin to a corridor, viewability isn't the best and is crammed, but the gig was great! Food looks like pub food, vibe is chilled.
I always enjoy a visit to Library – it's a private member's club with a difference. The central area is atmospheric with books, exposed walls and eclectic furniture. It's great for a drink, one-on-one meetings or pizza from their new pizza oven. They also run regular events in the evening in this space. They also have several other rooms, a new restaurant for those who want something fancier than pizza! and a brilliant speakeasy in the basement for cocktails. It's one of my favourite places for work or play!
Awful awful place- avoid! For a private members club, you expect good service. Instead, in Library, you will wait longer than any busy Soho bar, try to order food or drinks that are all out of stock, ask for a drinks menu to be told “no” and have a “guest relations manager” completely ignore you. Couple that with disgusting toilets, cold food when you can get it, poor communication and every week new staff and you’ve a recipe for disaster. Leila in particular is dismissive and rude, as well as the French receptionist who should learn the English word for “smile”. Totally dismissive attitude to customers. It’s a good thing they have books, because the WiFi / 3G is non-existent.
Not really sure who would pay to become a member here. It's woefully empty and feels like it might have been vague trendy five years ago. We went to the Dear Alice pop-up which was supposed to have an "utterly nonsensical" setting taken from the website, but which was exactly the same as every bar pretending to be speakeasy-style in London. The room was empty throughout the evening; we were the only guests from 22:00 - 00:30...Despite the guy at the entrance refusing to refund us for our sick friends who couldn't come, since apparently they'd had to reject other bookings for the same night. Cocktails were okay. Snacks were fine. The Alice in Wonderland theme was nowhere to be seen apart from in the cocktail names.
