Attended the QE II memorial concert which was superb, all 4 performers being outstanding. Then had supper which was, as ever, excellent. Our room was cold as the heating system's remote control wasn't working. However, one of the night receptionists was quick to respond to our call and he provided a replacement, showing us how it operated, after which everything was fine. Breakfast was the usual high standard. All very satisfactory, thank you.
Myself and some colleagues recently visited the Royal Overseas League for a number of meetings. Discreetly tucked away on Park Place with impressive views onto Green Park, the building is like stepping back in time, though beautifully and sympathetically modernised. We enjoyed lunch at the 1910 restaurant which serves extremely good food given the very modest pricing. I can’t imagine eating this well, for the price, anywhere in this part of London. A special thank you to the wonderfully hospitable not to mention historically knowledgable General Manager, Warren Miller, who along with his team, made us very welcome. We will be returning soon and a couple of our party are also planning to become members. Truly a hidden gem
Rudest porter I’ve ever come across. He was Ill-mannered and condescending and this generally led to a bad taste in my mouth about the club. I’m from a reciprocal and visited the club earlier on this year. Shall not be coming back. Considered at one point purchasing membership but certainly could not see myself doing so now. Shame to see such an esteemed club hiring such rude and unwelcoming staff, in addition to pricing £9 bottles of wine at around £26 - far more expensive than other clubs and lacking in the atmosphere to make up for it.
Amazing business dining experience. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Excellent reception and boardroom. Comfortable rooms and ostentatious breakfast Rooms: 5/5
I can see that a fellow reviewer John had a similar experience to me. The Porter made my guests feel incredibly uncomfortable. I felt embarrassed taking them to the establishment as a result, especially after having spoken so highly of the ROSL. The Porter did apologize, but it was too late by then. The atmosphere was unwelcome and hostile for young adults who quite frankly are the future of the club and are very much needed at the ROSL. I have suspended my membership since this occasion, despite being a long standing acquaintance having first started attending at 9 years of age. It is a shame as ROSL hosts some great music and political affairs events that I miss attending. Perhaps one day I can give it another go. In the meantime, I have a membership at another reciprocal club.
Treats younger members with utter disdain and disrespect. Avoid at all costs and find a club that doesn’t just take your money and ignore your membership. Last month I overheard 2 members of staff porters talk about me in the cloakroom commenting I was too young and must be weird to be a member - I’m 30 so hardly a teenager. Can’t wait to cancel at next renewal date. In particular, need to echo reviews below. The porters are beyond rude and I have never felt more unwelcome.
ROSL has its own private and timeless charm. Whether it gathering for informal drinks in the garden and a light bite or fancy a more formal dinner in the 1910 room, ROSL wills really one of the most beautiful places to be in central London. See you there…
ROSL is a members-only club, founded in 1910, located right behind the Ritz. In 1960 the Queen has granted it the title "Royal", but its membership fees are quite democratic. The club's restaurant is very good, its wine list is outstanding. The club organises the events that allow members to visit places that are otherwise closed to public garter ceremony in Windsor, tea at the House of Lords, ...
We just had a small wedding ceremony here and it was fantastic! The staff were friendly, helpful and attentive, and the location itself is so gorgeous and ornate. Was a perfect venue for a simple, elegant ceremony and the staff even gave us a small gift afterwards, which was beyond sweet! Recommend 100% for weddings.
An international and diverse club you would think? Well be prepared for its imperial & colonial heritage - some visible, some haunting within the mind of its members and board.
