You walk up from Duntocher Rd follow the footpath to top of the hill you will find a circle of Trees. These are the location of the Roman Fort if you walk into the middle of the trees you can see why it was made a Fort as its a fantastic view point location. you can see around the whole area its a nice 10 min walk upto the fort and back down. Nothing much to see as no roman structures.
No remains of fort but surprisingly perfect view of Glasgow.
I wasn’t expecting much but even so, I found the site totally underwhelming. There is an enclosure surrounded by a fancy fence and there’s nothing inside! It is supposed to be the stone base of the Wall but all you can see is grass. Then I saw a sign pointing to the fort. A-ha! So this isn’t the main deal. Oh yes it was. There was another sign saying that the fort was here, but absolutely nothing to see. I guess the view towards the Clyde is good on a clear day but frankly, there are lots of nicer spots in Scotland with a view. I would have liked to have seen some markers, stones or posts, showing the outline of the fort and the line of the Wall. Really, don’t bother visiting, unless your dog needs a walk. There’s no parking nearby. I parked on the A810 main road, near the junction with “Roman Road”. That sounds so promising doesn’t it?
Excellent view across the whole of Glasgow from here, completely understandable why the Romans chose this location for a fort. You can see the planes take off from the airport and most of them go directly overhead, so it's great for a bit of planewatching. The hill can be approached from either Duntocher Road from the north or up through Garscadden Wood from the south. It's a fairly steep walk up and might be slippery on a rainy day.
As a local to the area, it's long been "rumoured" there was a Roman fort at the top of the hill, but there are no visible remains up there now, nor really anything to mark the spot by way of information. There's a wide ring of large trees up there now, and excellent views over most of the rest of Bearsden and Clydebank, so it would definitely have been a good location to choose at the time. There are other Roman ruins in Bearsden, however, including the remains of a bathhouse in Roman Road, and parts of the Antonine Wall on the edge of Bearsden/Milngavie in the grounds of a cemetery.

I spotted this on an OS map, but it's only when you walk there and take in the views that you realise why the Romans selected this spot for building a fort. The views are so far reaching. Quite superb when I was there on a cloudy drizzly day, so they can only get better if the conditions were clearer There's no sign of the fort itself, but the ring of mature trees gives your imagination a toe hold to what might've been. On the minus side, it is obvious that the local teenagers like to hang out here and there is an unimaginable amount of glass, plastic and general detritus lying about.
Since I like Roman history and architecture I did look for this place but it's very difficult to find and obviously it's difficult for parking, I know The Antonine Wall goes directly past here and there seemed to be a dig in the adjacent field. Anyway the best place to see Roman architectural features including statues, instruments etc is at the Hunterian Museum at Glasgow University and it's free
It's a nice place. There's not really much to expect from it except a short walk and a good view. May be misleading calling this a historic destination as really there's no remains of any fort. Other than too much litter, it's nice though.
