This is a nice, cosy restaurant with a chef very much into good quality ingredients and solid cooking. There are a small number of tables and a focussed, changing menu as well as a very good wine list, only some with glass only option. We were the only guests, so difficult to say how good the service is if busy. There are a couple of things that would improve the experience, like addressing the slightly damp smell and fixing the fan or whatever is making the consistent background noise. However, would recommend for a "quiet", cosy dining experience with good food and drink.
Always a pleasure to eat at Restaurant at 54. Louise and Kevin are really friendly, helpful and accomodating. Awesome garlic and / or Stilton mushrooms and utterly amazing crumble.
Great food but lacks identity. Glossop High Street is an enigma; busy during the day and dead at night. If you were to drive along Glossop High Street on a Saturday night at 8pm two hands would be sufficient to count the number of people you'd see who'd be making the move to one of Glossop's fine drinking establishments. The Restaurant At 54 does serve great food but whilst you're in there the sense of wondering what is missing is a the overriding feeling. What's missing is an identity. They'd like to call it an English restaurant but they try all sorts of menus and food in attempts to attract custom. The decor needs refreshing and the downstairs seating area has enough space for about 10 people, otherwise they open upstairs. Good food but needs a revamp and a strong identity of what type of restaurant it is.
We have just had a lovely meal. We would highly recommend restaurant 54. Give it a try it's definitely worth it.
Love going here.. food 100% and the lady serving is lovely .. we always have a laugh and take our guests here if they visit Glossop
We went to several restaurants in Glossop but we hadn't booked so we couldn't get in. So 54 was not our first choice, but it will be next time. Great food, great service.
