A classic Sam Smiths pub that ticks ALL the right boxes for a real old fashioned pub. 3 rooms and a decent outside drinking area.
Sam Smiths pubs are pretty predictable. Cheap, decent beer and a quiet, calm atmosphere. Nice building. Have a no technology policy which is cool, just not great for getting a uber or other app based taxi service at the end of the night!
This is a special place offering a glimpse of another time in the present. Like all Sam Smith's pubs, use of electronic devices is prohibited and swearing discouraged. A pint of strong, organic lager is £3. Fires burn coal. Dogs are welcome. Discussion is encouraged. Staff are friendly. Visit North Shields, and be sure to visit the POW when you do.
Great boozer, comfy old school pub, with an outside drinking area, games room, lounge and public bar.. it's a Sam Smith's pub so expect cheap own brand beers, check out the 44 lager , the Strawberry or Raspberry beer is lush to wash down the awesome cheese toasties
Great little pub, serves Sam Smiths beers which are cheap. Is a bit like stepping into the past but canny. Nice to sit in the beer garden on a summers day too.
Advised after buying my beer by the member of staff behind the bar that Mobile phones are not allowed in the pub. Now I know plenty of people whilst waiting for friends to meet up will be on their phones so I could not understand the rule and enquired why? Because Mr Smith Brewery said so ..ok promptly finished my pint and left to spend my money in the much more welcoming Taphouse along the road. All my friends from work joined me their instead. People run businesses from their phones these days what a stupid and outdated rule and the attitude and response to my question from the lady behind the bar will ensure I wont frequent the place again! Added to that a couple of friendly locals taking the piss out of another customer because he had a beard let's you know what type of place this has become.
As with all Samuel Smiths pubs, very traditional with excellent beers and lagers at fantastic value prices. You won't find mainstream brands here as everything is brewed in house or own label, and it's all the better for it.
Its not changed at all apart from the lush jukebox has gone. If you went 20 years ago its untouched brilliant blast from the past. Remember to switch your phone off!
Amazing beer and old fashioned pub combo is unbeatable. Not many of these places left locally. Such a shame these iconic pubs are dying. Hopefully this will not happen
Cheap, But Quality. Nice Pub
