I being there for one night with my family while visiting Cardiff. It is well located and not far from M4. Economically it can be a good choice if you visiting Cardiff and it’s surrounding. The receptions are professional and friendly. They have variety rooms which are clean and comfortable. Breakfast fast are good standard. It’s also has car park and EV charging station. Overall I have really enjoyed my stay at the place and highly recommended.
Fantastic location... right across the road from the train station and very quiet. Carpets in both the room and corridors were filthy though and the shower walls and shower curtain both had black mould on them. I stayed for 4 days, coming and going a lot and not once was there anyone on the front desk either -you had to ring a number if you wanted someone.
I always said I would never stay in a travel lodge again after a bad experience a few years ago, but due to a work do, I had to. Location was good as it was in the town centre, but the local nightclub kept me awake all night, I could literally hear the words to the songs! The bed was like sleeping on a brick as were the pillows. The shower curtain was moldy. I can't comment on the service as there was no one there except to hand me a room key. Not a patch on a Premier Inn.
A great hotel and the staff were really friendly, we had some mix up with rooms but they sorted it out the best they could with minimal disruption. The room was good and clean, a kettle was provided with the normal drinks stocked.Rooms: 4/5
Great location but hotel is a bit run down. Absolutely no sound proof in the rooms, 2 floors up and could hear people talking as the walked past on the street. Lots of traffic noise. Within hotel could hear people talking and doors slamming. Not a very peaceful nights sleep.Rooms: 2/5
Very minimalistic rooms no glasses for drinking water. Not sure if the shower room water was drinkable. Smelly rooms. Clean sheets pillows and towels. Tea and coffee provided with the kettle. Avoid if you can.Rooms: 2/5
Stayed for 4 nights. First time in Newport. On the plus the hotel is very near to the train station and the staff were as friendly and you would expect. The room was basic but clean and functional and everything worked. Only 2 power sockets so some juggling of charging required. I was somewhat put off by the evident damage to my door where something had at some point been smashed against it, also a peephole on a door down the corridor with what appeared to be blood all around it. There was a distinct aroma of weed in the corridors too. I was surprised to find the reception area constantly empty with a sign permanently set up saying they were away for a few minutes. On one occasion I forgot my keycard and waited for 20 minutes for receptionist to appear from their adjoining room. Parking is expensive and it is a lottery as to if you will even get a space. Incidentally, if you manage to get one it is not guaranteed so if you pay for overnight parking, drive out for an evening meal and return to find space taken then you will have paid for nothing. Noise is an issue here. I heard near constant shouting, swearing, Erving engines, wheel screeching and threatening behaviour all around the vicinity of the hotel. On my first night I was woken at 3am by something kicking off outside my window with gangs arguing loudly, threatening each other and smashing things up. This can’t be blamed on the hotel but it makes for an uncomfortable stay. I like to get out and explore the locality when I stay away but forget walking about here after dark. It just feels very intimidating. I would not return as the overall experience was not pleasant.
First when we came in, the receptionist was incredibly rude, the way she stated that we "can't check in till 3" when we had pad £13 to check in at 12. We stated this to which she said "oh must have missed that" and no apology. Then when we come in, the carpet is covered in mud stains and loose mud. The walls are covered in stains along with the radiator. The room smelt like bleech, which makes no sence as nothing was clean. There is a hole in the door that someone has very poorly attempted to fill in and stuck a sticker over it. Next to ber there is a wall, showing several holes that have been filled in the past. The bed covers were the wrong way around. Hairs were found in the bed before we got in. The shampoo container is where the soap container should be and the soap container is where the shampoo should be, due to this you have to hang out of the shower to use the shampoo, and go into the shower to get soap, to wash your hands. The kettle is filled with limescale, so we cant use it.The walls are incredibly thin, which would not be a problem if people were respectful, holiday comers I understand but having staff shout directions right outside our door at 22.34 with our sleeping sign displayed was not appreciated. To top it all off, there is no direction to say where to go if there is a fire and we have read that previously someone has set fire to the building. If this was to happen again. No one would know where to go.
Convenient for town as all other budget hotels are out of town near the M4. Plenty of places to eat and drink very nearby to suit all pockets and tastes
The staff are nice, but the rooms are grimy and twin beds move and part down the middle. It's in a dangerous area so I never got any sleep. My friend's door was being kicked in at 1am in the morning last week. The bathroom is a wet room that needed cleaning and overall it was an awful experience. WiFi isn't free and nowhere to sit and eat breakfast. Just don't stay here.
