Greta location above the national portrait gallery, fab views across the roof tops around Trafalgar square. Excellent modern European food at not unreasonable prices for London. Nice relaxed dining experience with excellent service.

I had a lovely lunch here today. I was on my own and didn't book but I was happy to sit at the bar...and turn round occasionally to catch the spectacular view. The food and service (professional and cheerful) and set menu price were all first class. A previous reviewer (Alex I think) mentioned that he didn't feel comfortable because of the upper middle class female clientele. Bit of inverted-snobbery going on there, Alex?; bigotry can take all forms, Alex. That said I did feel quite young; I'm nearly 57! But who cares? It's a great place

The Pre Theatre menu from 17:30 onwards was excellent. Mediterranean flavours at moment, tasty and well presented, add excellent views across the City, this place is a fantastic start for the evening. Although busy, the staff looks well after you. Open till late thurs to Saturday

Very pleasant place, with a beautiful view. I recommend making a reservation if you want a table beside the window, otherwise it’s hard to find it even if you arrive early.

Looking for a quiet breakfast venue with the best views of the spires, rotundas, clocks, rooftops and Union Jack's surrounding Trafalgar Square, as well as views of Big Ben and a partial view of the Millennium Wheel? Portrait is your answer. It's at the top of the National Portrait Gallery and you'll need to arrive between 10am-11am to enjoy breakfast. Except for Valentine's Day and Mothering Sunday, it's not normally busy first thing. Service is friendly, linen napkins add sophistication--Portrait is a very central and often overlooked venue to eat a late breakfast, or simply meet a friend for a coffee. Over the years, I have also eaten lunch here and have never been disappointed. Even if you are not walking the galleries of the National Portrait Museum or the adjacent National Gallery, I highly recommend Portrait as a great choice, especially for breakfast.
