This place is fantastic. The staff were really helpful. They have different menus prepared for different allergies. They also provide a few sheets on the ingredients for all the menu so you can see if you will be impacted by the ingredients. They are happy to offer advice about what people can eat as well. The place has lots of little nooks and crannies perfect for 2 people to have a romantic meal out to have a quiet business meeting in the corner somewhere. All in all, the menu is amazing and plenty of options on the alcohol front. We had a circular table as we had a large group which meant we could all chat. Worth asking for that if you’ve got a larger group. An easy 5 star recommendation.
Based on ambience and our sea bass entres alone, P&H may have extracted a generous five star rating. Because of that and the overall experience it would seem unfair to give anything lower than four. But there were some negatives worth noting: we arrived in the drizzle with our 90+ companion, and the pathway was puddled, uneven and draining towards the main entrance. The young staff who turned out to be attentive at table service, made no gesture of concern or interest towards her/ us as we entered. They do not offer alternative milks so I settled on the cafeteria but the coffee was too light for my taste. A choice in both milks and bean roasts would elevate P&H. Two out of our three desserts were disappointing. A fan of sticky toffee pudding plain - no ginger or nuts to sing about here, I would skip it next time in favor of my lunch pal’s choice of cherry chocolate torte which was scrumptious. The apple and pear crumble was far too crumbly, disintegrating like sweet sand into a sea of liquid custard that lacked the body to warrant this usual comfort food as cozy. All that said, P&H is worth it overall. Ask for a fireside table if it’s cold out. According to my pals sitting on the patio in summer is fabulous on warmer days.
Been a couple of times in the past, wasn't overly keen but found out it was under new management so thought why not. Glad we did as the service and food was brilliant. Staff were really attentive and friendly. The food was really good too, the puddings were amazing. I had lemon tart, the pastry was light with a soft lemon filling topped of with a brulee covering, accompanied by raspberry sorbet and compote. Hubby had a white chocolate & marmalade cheesecake with dark chocolate sorbet can't tell you what that was like, as he didn't let me try it but he really enjoyed it. not the best photos, in too much hurry to eat it Daughter had Toasted waffle, Berry compote and cranberry ripple ice cream which was also lovely. Safe to say we really enjoyed and will definitely going back again.
Popped in on the off chance of a meal for 18th birthday celebrations. We only had starters and mains as copious amounts of cake and donuts to get through at home. All meals were gorgeous and a very quick turn around of service. Staff were all friendly and professional. Will definitely be back to try some of the other tempting offerings photos smoked mackerel starter and pan fried chicken main
Managed to get a table outside, bonus, it was hot. There were five of us including a vegetarian. Staff were friendly, helpful and efficient, with both drinks and food ordering at the bar. Food was delivered, in a very acceptable time, we had only ordered main courses. Full marks for Erdinger Alcohol Free Weissbier and the correct glass to serve it in!! This should held up as the gold standard in the local area!! May I suggest adding the with Alcohol and Dunkles variety to the offering!! My no only gripe was the Cesar Salad - the chicken should be in small strips or cubes, there should be anchovies - not sardines. Oh and plenty of salad, see attached photo for an example. All the other food was good and there were clean plates and satisfied faces all around.
Beautiful building, plenty of space inside and outside. Food was fab! Huge kids portions which looked great. Attentive staff, think our waitress was Tasmyn had blue hair, she was lovely and had no issue with getting our dog a bowl of water at the table. For the fresh cooked food, the prices were very good. Will definitely come back when we are next in the area.
Clean, spacious, with good parking and dog friendly. Flexible and client oriented staff. They even have an indoor fire. Quite romantic
Can’t really complain, but not my sort of Pub. Popular with ‘The Sunday Set’ and the internal decoration is a bit too ‘Neptune’ for my liking. So for me a bit too sterile, but many people love the place and it is popular. Only had snacks and they were acceptable.
Great service and great food with a very comprehensive whiskey selection. On a further visit this week 13/12/21 I was less than impressed. The flavours of the food and quality of the ingredients was good and I really enjoyed the started and desert. The main that I had left me feeling I had been short changed. I had the pheasant and the portion of accompaniments was small, quarter of a carrot, half a parsnip and a small blob of white stuff. There was an average portion of the stuffed pheasant breast though. The temperature was fairly cool and took away some of the enjoyment. The taste was good but would be great to have more. The portion size was really shown up against the traditional turkey dinner which some in the table struggled to finish. The other big issue was that we ordered a bottle of wine which was bought ti the table already opened with the cork pushed back in the top. I would expect the level of service here to have the wine opened at the table and offered to taste.
Very frustrating. Very long wait for each course. Poor, untrained staff. Some dishes didn't contain advertised ingredients. Fine if you like Brakes Bros, pre-prepared food. Over-priced for what you get. Would be more forgiving had service been more professional. A shame.
