Absolutely stunning surroundings. Beautiful countryside everywhere you look. A lovely pool set within and a minute walk from our cottage which was fab. We stayed in the stable cottage which had a twin room and a double. The kitchen was open plan with the dining and lounge area. Could have done with a lamp in the lounge. A luvly table and chair was set right outside the door and also bench at the front to catch the evening sun. It could really have done with a proper table there. There are no negatives at all only a couple of suggestions. The owners were right on hand if u needed them with suggestions of eating out etc.
The owners were lovely, We stayed in Willow Lodge and the rest of our family were in the other 3 lodges which were in the main house. The pool was maintained at a lovely temperature so that even in between the rainy spells the children could still enjoy it. As we would walk to and from our lodge regularly we often bumped into the owners or their children who would always say hello with a big smile, They do keep horses on site near willow lodge but they were very quiet, barely heard them unless a window was open and it was the middle of the day, the kids enjoyed talking the horses and with permission giving them a little stroke too. Our Lodge had 2 bedrooms with bunk beds one of which was a double at the bottom. It was so comfortable!! Our lodge was so clean and the shower was amazing! We would definitely stay again.
Another lovely stay at Periton Park. Our choice was a Bunk House which stands separately from the main building giving you extra privacy. There are two bedrooms with bunk beds, one of the bottom one is actually a double. Your own veranda with table and gas bbq. There's a swimming pool for residence, and entrance to the Exmoor Park just behind it. Lots of space around for a picnic with a view on running horses around. Owners are the most friendly and very helpful people. Do not hesitate to ask questions. In 2013 we choose the place mainly because "Exmoor National Park has been designated the first International Dark Sky Reserve in Europe!", and we love stargazing. If you are a fan of the night sky, that's the place to visit. On a clear night and without the moon shinning, you can see Milky Way above your head, and that is just by stepping outside the door. This time in 2014 we have done extra hiking and seeing places around, and there's a lot to see and discover. Just how often do you ride on a steam train or visit working water mill one in Bishops Lydeard and one that actually make fresh flour in Dunster Castle. In summary. We will definitely visit Periton Park again. It's a fantastic place as a base for visiting Somerset and Exmoor Park.
