I had an assessment to get onto the trauma pathway. I did get that referral sorted eventually although I had to chase it myself. During the assessment I told the social worker and nurse I was suicidal and needed maintainance care, since the wisitng list for trauma care is over two years and I was in crisis in the current moment. They both just stared at me and told me that wouldn't be possible. It turns out they also lived on my notes and said I was in no danger and not showing any immediate distress and to close my case. It's my word against theirs. I tried bringing up a concern and went to a meeting but they basically shrugged and said "why would they lie?" I'm done making excuses about them being underworked and over paid. Lots of healthcare workers are capable of treating people with humanity despite the conditions of their work. It's no excuse. If you have to use this service make sure you're making follow up calls to chase your own referrals and ask them explicitly to record things you have told them. Maybe even write your own notes and ask them to be copied into the system. However I did this and it didn't change anything.
I have had nothing but rejection after rejection , practically begging for help and support as I'm struggling. They keep stating I should help myself and I've done nothing but try to help myself. They do not understand the challenges I face on a daily basis. My mental health has also impacted on my children, which is not fair.I've done everything they've thrown at me. Mind ect...Primary mental health state that I'm to complexed for them. How can mental health professionals call themselves qualified is mind blowing to me!!! I would love to work in mental health as I would put all of them to shame.
There are some amazing and incredible people in the mental health workforce.I have nothing but admiration and respect for people who work in this field but the system in Cardiff is shocking.. - In July 2020 I received a rejection letter from Pentwyn after being in a number of crises ' having an appointment with a psychiatrist will not add any value ' . I was put on a section 3 , four months after receiving that letter and the person who sent the letter ended up being in my transfer of care meeting. -was told during a crisis ‘ get your university and GP to put pressure on us’ ‘your more than welcome to write a complaint letter about us’? why do I need to get my university and GP to contact and write letters so the team can have more pressure ? -I’ve also have had someone’s information about a tribunal sent to me in the post that is a GDPR breach - I had been given a care plan that was not fit for purpose referred me to a group therapy that is - A duty worker told me to run up and down the stairs after a crisis, 3 months later my care co told me not to run up and down the stairs because I might trip and to splash water on my face instead and gave me 8 tablets of promethazine.. -I have been with Pentwyn for the majority of my time being with adult MH services and I was 18 when I had my first assessment with them and now I am nearly at the big age of twenty and I have had only two reviews over the phone. -Duty also said to me ‘home treatment teams in Cardiff are very much dependent and will hold you back’. Surely home treatment teams are going to help bring me out of a crisis rather than hold me back? Offering support and regular contact to someone presenting in crisis is probably the commonest intervention offered in a crisis instead of being told to run up and down the stairs Why is it literally easier to get drugs and alcohol than to access support when your in a crisis? My relationship with this CMHT has been hilarious ' Today, a teenager who was brave enough to say that they were having thoughts of suicide was told there wasn't help out there'. Its heartbreaking hearing peoples stories struggling to access help and the lack of resources in the community. The worst part is that I asked a duty worker if he agreed on how the system works here and he does and believes that it is affective .He also told me that my care co has 150 patients to manage their care plans and asked if it that is ethical and he said yes. Change must happen. Also going to be wearing this dress next time I show up!
Dominic is a top social worker one of the best this mental health team are top.
Perfectly fine, both over the phone and in person.
Get them to answer phone is challenging enough
Blows my mind how this place is still running
Excellent service from all the staff on my visits
Absolutely abysmal
An awful place, which doesn't even care about the wellbeing of people trying to access their service. I had 3x an hour long assessments, each time they told me "I don't need their help"..... Yet I sat there in the assessment and expressed my want to end my life. But they just took me off the medication I was on, and needed, and left me to suffer. I unfortunately had to access this service yet again for the fourth time, as apparently it is my only option. The women was condescending and rude to me the whole assessment, the person I was with, also agree that her attitude was disgusting. They told me I need to "prove" I deserve their help by applying for a load of online help that I've done already numerous times. I have never heard of a patient with physical problems having to prove they deserve help?? Have you?? They also don't believe I'm trying to help myself, which was a slap in the face..... Since I've applied to every place I can think of, I'm on a lot of waiting lists, but I can't access Pentwyn CMHT without doing all of the self-help first, which could take at least a year with the lengthy waiting lists..... just have to cross my fingers and hope I haven't committed suicide by the time I finish all of their pointless self-help courses? Which I have already done? I've been with a mental health professional since I was 12, but as soon as I move home, all of a sudden I'm not allowed any real help, because of the incompetence of Pentwyn CMHT? THAT IS THE ONLY REASON I HAVE NO ACCESS TO HELP. Because I moved address and Pentwyn is refusing to help because of laziness? Don't want me to disturb their tea breaks and gossip sessions probably. According to their reviews, I'm surprised they are still open. If I end up dead because of the complete lack of help I've been given by them, I want them to know they could have easily helped me. A&E, doctors and any other professionals I've seen, have told me that Pentwyn CMHT are the only people that can help me, but they refuse to help, time and time again. Me self referring 4 times should be a sign i'm trying to get help? No? I have no other option but to move home, to be able to access proper mental health help. Absolutely useless and surprised they all still have jobs! Laughable
