I’m surprised at some of the reviews here but I suppose we are always so quick to write a review when we’re unhappy about something which is fair enough. I feel the need to rate penn surgery for the service I have received. This has been our surgery for 7 years We’ve never had any problems..we’ve had quite a few appointments/ bloody tests/ other tests/ queries etc recently relating to both me and my 2 children and I cannot fault this surgery. The reception staff are always friendly and helpful, ask all the right questions, Dr Pamma is just brilliant and understands your concerns. Brilliant surgery, I will always recommend them.
My partner and I have both had consistently terrible experiences here since signing up a few months ago. Penn Surgery failed to process prescriptions on several occasions, leading to us both missing very important medication such as stimulants for my ADHD and antidepressants for her depression. They are extremely poor at communication; when transferring to them at no point did they take the initiative to tell me I was not approved for my meds. I had to chase it up upon finding my prescription wasn't valid to discover that they'd done that, which is very negligent on their part. This also includes contact with the local pharmacy who they do not provide the correct information to and thus leads to many misunderstandings. It is simply not acceptable. Nobody should have to deal with this many hurdles just trying to claim their regular prescriptions. Worse still, despite being messed around with for over a month straight with several visits to the surgery and many calls back and forth, they had the gall to tell my partner to 'speak less rudely' when she showed the first tone of understandable frustration on a call. We have both now left this surgery firmly in the past - it's shocking how this surgery operates at all given it's near criminal incompetence in care. Avoid at all costs.
The staff at this practice are fantastic. I have literally no complaints about them at all. You can usually get an appointment same day if it's urgent, they have plenty of appointments to book in advance if it isn't urgent, and everyone is professional. This is the first practice I have been registered at where the reception staff are competent, and in fact they go beyond that and are warm and friendly too, which comes as something of a shock after coming from PMMC down the road. One appointment I went in to see the doctor and within a few seconds they knew exactly what was wrong - obviously they did some tests to back it up, but they were proven correct. The nurse I have seen a few times, Denise, is particularly competent and friendly, and everyone seems very positive about working there. I cannot emphasise how much this practice should be seen as a shining example of what a GP surgery should be like. Cannot praise them enough!
I really like this surgery the staff are good. I would like to point out that Dr Bush is very dismissive and doesn't listen to you or address any of your issues. It makes you feel disheartened when you've waited weeks for an appointment sometimes. I asked for a second opinion from two other doctors, one in urgent care out of hours and one from Dr Martin, who both agreed on my condition. I would like to give Dr Martin the younger one a 5 star review, he is truly brilliant and very caring. He listens and reassures you, and is very granular with the treatment he gives.
Very great resaults for there Reception staff requested information for the test that has bin sent to the Lab 9 days ago and Viky responded with you were asked to get bloods done! The blood test was requested by the Doctor and when i asked Reception for the request form for the blood test what type so on I was tolde it might take some time for the request form to go to reception! now im told its in the spine you can book it online and the spine knows what type! Great!! Train your staff one knows what where and how the other persone has no info on what to do! Now i chased the test with the hospital there head of Lab tolde me they can only give info to GP and Only GP! so now Viky whants me to chase down the test resault due to them having thousends of pationts and dont have time to chase test resaults! After our phone call my partner has the same symtomes as befor amputation of galblader and now has high blood presure and iradic blood sugar with befor op was normal as the photo can show stress casued by the we dont have time to care atitude her blood presure and sugar level Thanks to Viky at Reception!
Moved to Penn Surgery in November, after simply awful treatment at Penn Manor. My first need for an appointment was on Monday, I was able to get an appointment on the phone, after not too longer wait, saw Dr Martin he was very thorough, helpful and empathetic. The new patient registration was easy, the the nurse review was good too. So................... so far so good. Thank you
Visited the surgery recently for the first time .I found the staff very friendly and helpful.
I have been a patient at Penn Surgery for many years and I can say nothing but good things about the doctors, nursing staff and receptionists. They have been a great support throughout the years for me and my family. There is the ability to build positive relationships which is invaluable when illness strikes. Just a big thank you to all concerned.
I visit my GP not very often as I end up buying some paracetamol eitherway! but everytime I go to see a GP , I have to wait at least 10-20 minutes to be called in. Unfortunately staffs Doctors and receptionists are new faces everytime! Today after waiting for 2 weeks, for the first time I was 10 minutes late and I was refused to be seen, while absolutely nobody was waiting. Absolutely no patient. Did I mention the very rude receptionist was eating at the reception and she was hesitant to answer?
The drs that I have seen have been brilliant. However the booking system is RIDICULOUS and DANGEROUS. Call at 830 no appointments, call at 1, to be advised they need to check with a Dr get a call back at 3pm to be told no appointments today ‍ Meanwhile my son is running a high temperature. There must be a better way of operating? Needless to say need to look for a new Dr's, where I can be confided my under 5 will be seen. Considering our family of 3 go to the drs less than once per year
