Story

"Paxton House, an elegant Georgian House, with a Regency extension, furnished by Thomas Chippendale and William Trotter, set in the beautiful Scottish Borders."

A fantastic day out in the Borders. 80 acres of woodlands, Highland Cattle, Salmon netting on the River Tweed, extensive Adventure Playground, tea room serving home-made lunches, house tours, garden tours, special kids activities and more.

Designed by John Adam, the House is perhaps the finest neo-Palladian mansion in the country with one of the best collections of Chippendale furniture in the UK, specially commissioned for the house. The 18th Century Costume collection of menswear is another major feature.

We are a Partner Gallery of the National Galleries of Scotland with a custom built Picture Gallery full of artworks on loan from the Scottish National Portrait Gallery.

Wonderfully restored Georgian House brimming with original beautiful Chippendale furniture. Or tour guide Linda was a font of knowledge on the history of the house. Also loved the tearoom in the former stables, Lovely staff and great service.Would highly recommend a visit.

Great place to visit. Lovely house and gardens. River trips too in the summer. Wonderful for families. Picnic areas and lovely walks. The staff too are terrific. Nothing seem too much trouble. Highly recommend.

Beautiful country park setting on the banks of the river Tweed. Plenty of outdoor activities and stunning walks. Main house is eye openingly splendid and round your day off with refreshments in the converted stables where there is a great range of cooked meals to home baking. Dogs are welcome too in a side room. Plenty free parking.
