ITALIAN DUO BRING A TASTE OF ITALY TO WILLIAMSON SQUARE IN THE FORM OF NEW DELI

Two brothers with a passion for authentic Italian cuisine are bringing a taste of southern Italy to the heart of Williamson Square in the form of a new deli.

Paolo and Donato Cillo will unveil P&D Deli later this month and will offer customers a caffetteria, homemade Italian cakes, specialist Italian beverages, a selection of light bites and paninis, pizzas by the metre and more than 20 different varieties of homemade Italian ice cream.

The duo, who are originally from the picturesque town of Potenza, have spent the past six months researching and sourcing suppliers from their home region in order to provide the city’s diners with a ‘bespoke offering chosen by real Italians’.

Paolo, who started cooking at the tender age of 11 and is now the head chef at Il Forno on Duke Street, said: “We are delighted to be able to open this deli after dreaming about it for so long. Food is one of – if not the most important – aspects in life for all Italian families and we wanted to share that belief with diners in Liverpool city centre.

"We’re going to be creating real Italian dishes seven days a week, cooked fresh every morning on site with traditional produce, which will make P&D Deli a one stop shop for takeaways, whether it is for breakfast, lunch or on the way home at the end of the day.”

Prices will start from as little as £1.40 for beverages and £2.40 for food at the deli, which will have a 60 seater capacity and managed with the help of both Paolo and Donato’s wives, Mariana and Antonietta -making it a complete family affair.

Donato, 36, added: "For us, it’s about giving our customers satisfaction. We love to see them really enjoying food and relaxing. In Italy, we take time over our food, we savour it, and I would like to see that happening in this country.

“We have really high hopes for the business and we would love to open a few more over the next couple of years. There are a lot of exciting plans for how we could develop the company.”
