Attended ward G, Ormskirk Hospital for a routine umbilical hernia repair, but suffered unforeseen consequences as I had a reaction, presumably to the anaesthetic. The result was that I was very sick afterwards, and also I was unable to urinate.
After about 7 hours post op, I was still unable to pass water, at which time I was fitted with a catheter and sent home for the weekend.
Today, Monday, I returned to ward G, and had the catheter removed.
All in all I was extremely impressed with the surgeon and medical staff, but special mention must go to Joanne, who fitted the catheter on Friday evening, and went beyond the call of duty to look after myself and my wife. She handled the situation with admiral professionalism, for which I am extremely grateful.

Can't fault the staff on ward E, really couldn't do enough to make sure my stay was comfortable. The medical and surgical staff were wonderful too.

On Tuesday 20th June 2017, my partner was scheduled for surgery to correct an unstable wrist fracture. We, along with another 8 patients for day surgey arrived on Ward G at 7am. Soon we were seen by the Consultant and his team who put us entirely at ease with his humour. We felt we were in good hands. The nursing team prepped my partner and managed her apprehension with empathy and a gentleness I've rarely witnessed for many years. There was checks, cross checks and then checked again. The four inch arrow scribed on my partner's arm was testimoney to the seriousness with which they want to ensure they operate on the correct arm! The purple resin plaster surely was a giveaway! When we thought about how many people he was operating on that day, we realised his mark was his map to reassure him. Old fashioned as it was, it gave us reassurance. The surgery went well with my partner being returned to the care of the nursing team on Ward G. At 7.20pm, the surgical team came to see my partner and reassure her that everything went very well. The Consultant explained to my still sleepy partner how expensive the plate was that he had inserted into her arm, when she opened one eye and said: "I'm worth it!" We all howled with laughter. My real point is that while the nursing team was on it's third shift rotation, the Consultant team were still on duty after more than 12 hours, and had the same humour that they started the day with. What dedication an professionalism? As a visitor to this borough, it's residents must be so proud and reassured that they are served by such dedicated people. We can never repay Ormskirk & Southport NHS Trust, but we can say THANK YOU.
